Arizona Chickens

Busy day on the AZ chicken thread....

I need a farm for my chickens. I have too many..

Come May, I'll be selling a BUNCH of pullets. stay tuned.

I'm so excited! I'm going to hatch quail! I've had the idea for a while, just not the room... When I hatch my first batch, I might sell a couple dozen of the chicks! If anyone is interested in quail, I should have chicks within a couple of months! Eventually, I will have chicks, adults, and fertile eggs for sale!

The coop is going well! We had a bit of a slow-down after it rained, but we are back to par, working 4 hours a day weekdays, and 10 hours on weekends! Should have it completed soon!

Chicks were three weeks old, yesterday! It's hard to believe I've had them that long... They are a lot bigger than they were. In a while, I will make a thread to help, erm, genderize(?) them?

I am a vegetarian since the 9th, and it hasn't been difficult! I'm surprised my mum hasn't forced me to eat meat! (She's quite worried about my protein intake. Oh, dear.)

I'm a carnivore, there is nothing wrong being a vegetarian, you just have to know more about your foods. Every body type is different. What ever your reason, your mother has no need to worry, if you have educated yourself on protein rich foods. One of my nieces decided to become vegetarian, but she doesn't like nuts, legumes, soy beans, and lentils to name a few. She changed her mind. The last I heard she is eating some meat.

A friend of mine in Florida eats eggs, dairy, and fish, and considers himself vegetarian. My opinion is his body can not digest meats.

Just went out to check on my girls, Clare, Pecker, & Lucy had jumped the fence and were raiding my garden. As soon as I opened the door they ran to the fence, I opened the gate and they went in. Don't tell me they don't learn. On the other had you have Blonde, dumb as a rock.

Yeah my friend that has chicken calls them dumb.. But other people that have them & the stories they tell... Well that is a different story..
My girls know when I have the spray bottle in hand they are in the no scratch zone.. They take off before I even spray.. Unles of course
they can't see the bottle..

Hey you know, some dogs are smarter than others.. Do you think a specific breed of chicken is smarter than another?? I don't believe so

I agree, all breeds have their less the bright individuals, and their smart ones. I wonder what would happen if someone breed for intelligence. That would be like having a dog that can talk, and tell you what he thinks. Could be dangerous. :lau

It is meaningless, but bothers me. "76 Ave and Cactus," for Lee Lees. It eats away at me when I makes silly mistakes. :he

I have found, by my taste buds, that Asian sweets are less sweet, I often detect honey instead of sugar. I have wondered about some sweet bread products. I have had sweet rice (not really sweet), if my information was right, the sweetness in some breads are from sweet rice flower, an Un-verified and questionable source. I believe a deft hand at sugar or other sweetener.

It really depends, usually on the area.
Most Asian stuff uses straight palm or white sugar. Sweet rice is just sticky (glutinous) rice with sugar and coconut milk, my friend taught me to make it and I like using coconut cream more than the more watery coconut milk. Then you make little tamales with it using jackfruit or mango (any fruit you like, I like using fruits that I would normally use with cottage cheese, like peaches)
But yeah Chinese especially for sweets uses less sugar in their pastries and stuff. I love the coconut cream rolls.

I think its because in certain areas (south) a lot of sugar is used in everyday cooking because they like sweet. Whereas other areas like savory and spicy (north and west). The Shanghai and Canton (Guangzhou) areas eat more sweet foods.
For new years there is this weird sweet, rice flour balls covered in red sort of candy/caramel melted sugar stuff.
And if you don't like moon cakes, don't worry neither do the Chinese, lol!

Thai like things either super sweet or super spicy, usually a mix of both.

Does anyone have any advice on feathers? With my chickens its nit a problem but the ducks i swear just explode every single week. Its become a problem because the feathers will get into the pool filter and back it up. Ive tried raking but thats not very helpful. Any ideas?
