Arizona Chickens

Thank you Enjoytoo.

Shaun - Hope dog does well. Let me know if you would like me to research dog supplements that might help. Though she/he sounds pretty sick. When my Pomeranian was dying, Glucosamine helped her with her joint pain. I was shocked, totally shocked at how well it worked - and I am in the supplement business.

RRR-Cute duck. Happy rabbit news. I might be interested in rabbits, but I would let them run loose in the yard with the chickens, so if that is outside your comfort zone, I understand. I have a good fence to keep them in the yard.

Sleep deprived folk: My dad has recently found help with a melatonin cream. PM me if you want more info. He has struggled with sleep for years.

everyone on this tread has been busy I see...

I have been busy too...the weather has been really weird up here, nice and warm and then cold, rainy and snow---so this makes it hard to care for all the animals. I have some young ones in an outdoor brooder and keeping the temp warm enough and not to warm has been a continuous battle.

I hope that everyone has a GREAT Friday and a GREAT weekend

Everyone,
The duck isn't mine nor is it my posting. I'm offering to pick it up and drive it to a good home though. Lol.

Cheerful,
There might be some needing homes, might be. Morning sorting went pretty well actually, he had a lot less than he thought. I'm guessing it's because they were all crammed together...making it look like a sea of rabbits.

While moving the adult bucks into separate pens I found a stow away! Itty bitty month old doe snuggled under the rolls of a big bad meat buck. It was a funny thing to pull her out from under all that fat! After that I attempted to placed her with three different litters around her age but each of the mothers lunged at her. Obviously not a safe thing to pursue and with the farm already overrun I decided to take her home and mull over what I can do with her.

My Dad is not too happy but he thinks shes a cutie. That's a start.

She sat on my lap the whole way home and at red light I played with her ears. I am dumbfounded by how calm she is. No hesitations with this little one.
Pretty sure her name is going to be Timbaland

. Here she is in all her tiny glory:

SuperBroody's chick did not make it. She was screaming to be let out of the brooder, so I let Superbroody out and found a fluffed-out chick dead.

Disapointing--but didnt see any obvious COD. Until....

The DH was outside digging to bring conduit & power over to the coop. The kids and I spent 2 hours sitting, snuggling various chickens. I pick up Fugly Duckling and feel something move under my fingers. In light of Shaun's recent experience, I inspect suuuuper-closely and see red mites!

I read mtes can suck a new chick dry in a few hours. Man it is not my month!

ANYWHOO, the boys and I got a flea and tick dip, and chickens are being dusted tonight.

red mites look like little moving red grains of sand.

I have officially reached my level of "ick" for the day. I have had 3 showers and 2 hose downs since 5pm. I dare not count the number of "lather, rinse, repeat"s I did.

All the birds got dusted with sevin dust--some got forced dust baths in a rubbermaid container I filled up with new dirt, extreme amounts of DE, and some sevin dust mixed in. Extreme firebombing of the coop tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I could feel the buggs crawling under my skin, in my hair, ears, in my mind.... even after judicious scrubbings. So I decided to burn them out with a bottle of cheap wine--but when I went in the wine cooler I noticed some of my home-made cheese had gone super-moldy. One batch was camembert, or brie--so it SHOULD have gone moldy. I cracked it open, and it STANK like cheese should stink, it had the liquidy texture, but the taste

Pasturized milk makes for craptastic cheese. Even the cheap wine won't cleanse my pallet. It may be time to move on to the big guns.

Vodkaritas anyone?

Hi everyone!!

I was looking back at pages 533 & 534 I think they were.

I've shopped a few stores in town. There's one just south of the 101 on Cave Creek, it was typical nothing great. Kind of dusty, but friendly people!
The Stock Shop on 67th Ave & T-Bird they are always friendly, and even know my quirks! I've bought all my chicks from them (with the exception of 2)!
Pratts on Glendale, & T-Bird too, That place was so dirty that I made a once through and out I went. THERE WERE EVEN DEAD CHICKS IN THEIR BINS!

Dales just west of Litchfield Rd on Waddell. The place is clean, and everyone was nice. NOW their prices for feed are about 5 to 7 dollars cheaper per bag than Stock Shop. But Stock Shops items are cheaper than Dales.

AS for polish, our polish just bred our leghorns, and we got 3 polish/leghorn crosses! We got him from Stock Shop for $8.00.

Oh yes, and hello nice to meet everyone! But it is bedtime for me, early to bed early to rise!

GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE

nice to meet you too.

I used to live in waddell (not too far from whittman) There is a stock shop in waddell also if you haven't been to it. It was at Glendale and cotton Ln in case that's closer to you. I am not sure about chickens or chicken feed but I would assume they have something there. Its owned by a great guy Billy Chester. Definitely worth a look.

So Polish X Leghorns. Interesting!! It would rock if they looked like polish and laid like leghorns!!

Good night RedfogsFlock

So is anyone out there someone who can help fix some metal gates that were hung on block walls? The Gates were hung improperly and barely work anymore. We have tried calling a few people to come out but they seem to always flake out. I thought i would ask.

The second part of my question, is anyone a welder? I am thinking about what I want to do for chicken coop round 2 and some welding would be involved. So i thought i would ask.

Maybe the same person can assist me with both issues

Thanks everyone.

OHHHH

My Pictures have been updated with the new coop configuration. This one is from this afternoon. I finished adding the 2ft chicken wire around the base of the chain link fencing tonight so its different now. There are some pictures from tonight but its hard to make everything out since it is dark...
