You are #1 on the list.
Maybe you could bring your husband along to give us a quote on solar panels??

I'll be ready to let go of her in about 3 weeks.

Heck yeah he can come with!! He isn't the estimator, but he can recommend some stuff and give you a ballpark. Emphasis on ballpark.

Our panels cranked out 33 kWh today which was SUPER exciting because they're not rated very well for HIGH temps. Rumor has it they top out performance-wise at around 80 but they've not let us down yet!

Hang in there. I think the mites can really take it out of them. So sorry about your lost one. Poor thing. You are dealing with a lot, but as someone else said, it is just waiting for them to recover now. I use Raw Apple Cider Vinegar when the flock looks like they aren't doing so well. I found several sites that explain its benefits. You can find them through google. I think this one might be okay to link http://www.eden-livestock.co.uk/apple_cider_vinegar_article.htm

It
is a mild antibiotic as well as being beneficial in many other ways, so maybe you could switch to RACV from the antibiotics when they have completed treatment or even during. It helps with respiratory congestion.

I find that it really perks up birds that seem a little lethargic. I even feel safe giving it to tiny chicks if I see signs of lethargy and illness - perks 'em right up.

I just mix it in their water source. Keeps the water clean, too. Hope that helps. Here's one more

I am happy to report that all is well in the coop. My scary, angry broody has everyone getting along out there. Two year old hens, 4 month old roosters, 2 month old chicks and 3 week old chicks. You just can't believe how peaceful it is out there. Yes, they are all scared of the broody, but she is keeping everyone in line.

The roosters have both started crowing and they like to start at 4 am.

I would love to add a roo but my neighbors are right up on top of me and I'm sure I wouldn't be making friends, can't wait to find a bigger place so we can add one and more hens too.

For fun - especially for rabbit folk and those with children in the play on words jokes are hysterical stage...

Happy Cinco De Mayo! All the chubby chicas (including myself) are celebrating by tossing their various diets to the wind and indulging in some extra-salty super-cheesy Beto's for lunch. Thankfully, it is in walking distance, so we can wiggle-jiggle all the way back to our desks.

Cap1717- Are you around? The DH is finishing up the run, and I want to put a few plants in there for pretties and shade. Yes, I know the chickens will eventually eat it, so I don't want to spend too much money... Looking for a cheap, easily obtained land-scapey plant. Is Arizona Honeysuckle an OK choice? We used to give it to the outdoor cockatiels as a treat: so I suspect it is not poisonous. I have a teeny weeny peach tree that could go in there too.

I will probably do grapes on the OUTSIDE of the run, but not until next fall.
