They meet once a month on the third Thursday of each month. (Except for July and August.) The meetings begin at 7:00 p.m.

Meeting location: The Valley Garden Center, 1809 N. 15th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85007.

I found it helpful.

I just checked in with Mary, my broody, she now has 5 chicks. I put 12 under her, lost 2 that didn't make it out of the egg. 5 peeping and keeping warm, but in the picture I counted 12 eggs with 4 hatched, agin the strange math. Somehow, she had 18 eggs under her. Rather she has moved eggs from nests. Next door or 1 or more hen has been donating eggs to her. :love I can not wait until tomorrow night. I will have to move her again when they have all hatched to a better location.

How eggciting.. Hope to see more photos of your babies..

We are ready to start raising chickens. Anyone in the Sierra Vista area have suggestions on where to get some pullets? I've called some of the locals and get voicemail.... Does anyone have some hens/pullets that need a home?

Lady Doria & I both have hens. Private message either of us.
first come first get... :ya

TSC is just the Wal Mart of the "country rural lifestyle". They are opening 12 stores in AZ this year. As to poultry equipment, not anything extraordinary. The feeders and waterers all come from China. The plastic feeders and waterers are junk. Bottoms and tops don't line up easily and the ears break off the waterers pretty fast in our sun, dumping the water all over you. The galvanized stuff is way over priced, and from China, and often slightly bent as they come in boxes of 12 stacked high and squished in pallets. Most of what they offer bird wise is schlock. Treats, cheap plywood nest boxes, cheaply made hutches for one to four birds etc. As to buying birds there? Only as a last resort. All hatchery shipped. No local sourcing. No local input, and from what I have seen in a few stores in North Central AZ, no local knowledge either. Not really farmers of any kind. Just a bunch of folks who needed a job and maybe grew up on a farm somewhere else.
Since I have no previous experience with that place, I always wondered what kind of store it was, thanks for the helpful description!

Not pertaining to chickens but wanted to share. Went to Dallas yesterday to watch my daughter get her wings after a 5 week course for SWA. Her boyfriend Pete came in a day early and popped the question much to her surprise. 2 exciting memories in less that 24 hours. Pete works for US Air and my son just got hired by them as well, Things are looking good!!!
Welcome to the world of non-rev flying!!! Sometimes it is the best thing ever and sometimes not so much...but it certainly has been wonderful for our family. Dh works for Mesa Air here in PHX. He has a really stressful job, but I told him he can't quit for another 5 years til we have lifetime flight benefits. :yesss: Congratulations to your daughter...that is very exciting!
Hay, same here. DH as of the end of the year we will have lifetime benefits... Yeeehhaaa.. Not really, we never go any where.. It just sounds good.. Chris, that is fabulous!! Congradulations.. Hope my DH will see Pete at work & congratulate him from us!! :woot Great photos by the way..

Still nothing. I'm really not THAT computer illiterate. Even as I type I'm looking at the "Reply" options but no desktop that I can see.

Do I need to be in a specific page first? BYC Home screen? Thanks for your help

I found it carnivore. Thanks for the help.

Glad you found it.. Also glad you are on &. :welcome
What breeds do you have? Any photos?

I actually posted pics here for the first time this morning. I do t know how to get good pics of them because when I'm outside they swarm me like bees and it's tough to get a shot.

Anyways we have 4 RIR, 2 Buffs, 1 Brahma and 2 that I can't remember what they are. Maybe you or someone can help from the pics.

The "Goat Riders" are too funny not to post. Just got the goat not too long ago and the chickens like to Roost on him. He actually had a little lice when I received him but the chickens have eaten all of the little pests right off of him.

The little white ones that I can't remember the breed have Blackish Specks on the back of their necks. They're very affectionate birds too. Whatever they are I like them. Maybe someone can tell me what they are?

Thanks again
