Arizona Chickens

This afternoon I let the 15-week old cockerels out to free range while the hens were also out. A few minutes later I saw two birds going at each other feet-first, hackles out. Thought it was two of the cockerels fighting over their new territory. Then I took a closer look and cracked up. One was a cockerel. The other was a ticked-off hen. She whooped his little butt and sent him running.
You go, girl!

(Edited to clarify the cockerels are 15 weeks old, not 15 week-old cockerels. Oops...)

It's the same way in he dog world. I've seen many bit he's run off Big Tough males. If mom as not happy, nobody's happy. Lol I have learned today that a couple of my ladies are actually Roos and need to replace them with Pullets. Have any or know anyone with some different breed Pullets for sale or trade? The ones I'm exchanging are RIR.

It is a nice set up. I am keeping my bee suit, but it includes actually 2 suits, his and mine, that are the top part or jacket type.

Was going to bed for the what ever time, had to stop and check on my new Mama... Just to cute. I woke them up. One of the little ones had that hanged man thing going on. Or dead chicken with head hanging down. Wish I could have gotten that. It is cool tonight. I have no light or heat on them.

wow so I have been building the duck run and planting. I got the new dust bath done in the large coop and added some tree branches for something new for my chickens. I am so sore, but it is all worth it. The ducklings have a 45 sq ft run to play in. They have not even walked the whole area yet. My garden is another 42 sq ft section. I have cervical spinal stenosis and deteriorating joint disease so I can only do things in stages. Thank God for my amazing husband and my youngest son who like to help with the farm. :) I only have 3 more coops to build and get the goat pen back in shape for my new goats and then pigs by fall....so much to do. Oh and my apple tree has apples on it. I was so excited to see that. I did not expect apples for another year. I wanted to share pics....
So glad you posted up those photos.. You have a great place.. Most of us do things in stages, plus we don't have something to slow us down like you..

I bought all of them from The Stock Shop in Phoenix except the RIR. They were just straight run from someone on CL. Looks like I got 2 and 2 from the RIR bunch. Wish I knew that wing feather trick then. Good thing is, since I have 2 Roos to get rid of, I get to replace them with other breeds. I'm addicted to BYC now so an excuse to get more chickens is awesome.

The big black one is my favorite chicken. Lays weird eggs though. Cracks me up how the chickens take refuge on his back

You think you will only be getting 2? They are so fun 2 becomes 4,6......
Keep us posted on what you decide.. What do you mean when you say she lays a weird egg??
