BellLisamo, I saw your craigslist ads on the sierra vista site today. You should list in Tucson too. Someone put some hens up for sale in Tucson the other day and they were gone in a second! I bet you could get folks to drive down there to get some.

If you are looking for show quality white crested black polish, the hawkins family in Safford raises them. They might be at the show this weekend, I haven't heard. They have the best I have seen lately though. I would ask though Shane, Scott's Son, not Scott though.

I have had some requests for birds I have not raised before and was considering ordering some. Anyone know of any breed that does not do well here in Arizona. I have had trouble with favorelles in the past. I can't raise one of those things to save my soul and they are some of the prettiest birds.

The requests were barnvelders and welsummers. I have never raised the real dark egg layers not that the color of the egg matters.

Edit: Sorry John about the polish but I just have the two up front. I might order some in the future but I don't know for sure yet.

Hi Vanessa,
I have two barnevelders (one is the hen trying to go broody - not very good at it, because she just changed to a new nestbox)).

They did great in the winter and so far, so good, but they haven't gone through an AZ summer yet. If you are still looking for opinions after July, ask again and I'll leg you know how they did.

I got a trio of Welsummers in January...they are all young and just starting to lay, I am incubating some of their eggs right now and they are looking good. This will be the first hatch from them. They did really well when it was colder, we will see how they do as summer goes on. Also...I am up North of Prescott, so it will not be as hot here

Thanks guys I just don't want to order something that should not be raised here. Some breeds are more delicate than others and I don't have the time or the room to be having to raise 100 chickens in my bathroom to keep them alive. I do the usual thing with misters and fans and extra play water and such.

I do have a little something that is baffling my mind though and maybe some of you can explain or sympathize either way I will feel better......Why on God's green spinning pickle will the guys at the feedstores not put the stupid feed by the tailgate? I have asked for it to be put at the tail gate and they still put it up by the cab. Then I went to another feedstore to get DE (I was out) and they did the same thing. Do they think that I am super human and can lift that stuff over the side of the truck? Seriously?

Ok thank you for letting me vent...You guys are the best!

Ahhh nevermind I can't order ANY of the birds I want until next year. The two hatcheries that I deal with are out til then on the pullets anyway. I even went so far as to look at other places but to no avail. Thats okay though cause I really like to stick with the hatcheries that I use all the time anyway. What a bummer.
