Do boys add more or girls? What happens if there is a double yolk?

Can chickens count, do they want more brothers

Yeah, I wish I had a pair of jungle fowl.. Only 2 hens.. I might need to call around & get a rooster.

in case anyone's interested, I will have papaya seeds to add to the seedbox and some guava seeds as well. However papaya IS sensitive to frost so I would plant it up against the house where it can be covered,, otherwise you lose it during a hard frost.

I have some extra limes ( just PM me) if some people in this East Valley area would like some let me know Or for those that may travel up near this area

has anybody found some economical food grade large storage containers that are plastic? Target Has them for their pet food but they're kind of pricey

We use the 5 gallon food grade containers from home depot.

Im going to have ti seperate my BR Roo Brave from the flock he keeps graving the pullets by there head feathers, he is only 11 weeks isnt he to young to try to breed? My pullets are the same age no eggs though. Is that a breeding behavior or is it something else?

He has got to hang onto something till he masters his mount. I would just leave him, he will figure it out. Unless he is extremely aggressive.. Crock pot then

I would love some seeds. some of all of them if I could. I just was thinking about paying $10- for papaya at this little place but couldn't bring myself to pay that much for them. Thank you in advance. btw we use old ice chests for food grade containers. works great!! (yes we might be red necks lol)

Agh, GREAT idea!! Thanks.. I heard on the radio a good idea.. Although we do not have a dish washer, I AM the dishwasher .. You can put kid toys, keys, sponges, cell phone case, ect...

!!  AND I'm slowly making my way through the thread.  My broody Aussie took to the eggs like water at 100 degrees - if they hatch - grand - if they don't well my girl will feel better.  Fingers and toes crossed!!  Thanks again both of you - you were a great help!

I'm getting ready to stick some TJ eggs under my BA too.  She went broody right after this discussion. 
They are also only 4-5 days old.  I'm hoping for some mellow(for a leghorn) egg laying machines.

At that age he's just a teenager with raging hormones and no etiquette whatsoever. I had the same thing happen with my roo so I would grab him when he jumped my hens indiscriminately with not a thank you mam or a prelude. I would grab him by his tail feathers and hold him upside down until he quit struggling and then I would hold him for a while. I did this on several occasions and then I quarentined him for about two weeks and when I finally let him out he had more manners and less aggression towards the hens and more respect for me as head honcho.

Dave, if you need some fertile eggs for your broody hen I've got some and now that you're in STV you're not that far from my place. Let me know if you need some. I've got Golden Marans, BBS Orps, EE hens with the Golden Marans roo and a couple of EEs. Unfortunately my Ameraucanas went into molt and are not laying right now. I'm not planning on setting any in my incubator right now and I've finally broken my blue orp girl out of her broodiness so I can give you some of the above.
btw, congratulations on the move! I'm trying to catch up on here, been off for a few days and you all have been chatty!

I just dug up a dozen grubs from my compost pile and threw them one-by-one to the hens. Mass rioting. So hysterical. I might dig a bucketful full of compost now and then and dump it in the pen for them to scratch through ... is that kosher?

I made sure to hand feed my couple of hens who are the bottom of the pecking order by hand so they could get goodies. My RIR that I got from @desertmarcia is getting so personable. Crannie is always the first to greet me and hangs out around my feet a lot. Of course, I've encouraged that by bringing in treats like the cranberry/shelled sunflower mixed from Costco's Superfood Salad. I purposely let them fall around my feet. The hens, especially Crannie, are getting a lot braver. Now they get excited when they see I have the trowel in my hand to dig in the compost pile!

Update on Stubby (BPR) with Marek's. I've been keeping her in my bunny side cage that we used for them when we are cleaning the big hutch. Today I put her in the grassy penned area for a bit (the part with the ticks in it). She hasn't progressed too much at all. Her feet fail her often, but she's getting around a bit on her legs/hocks. She staggers, but doesn't seem to be in any pain. I'm just trying to keep her happy and comfy.

We've had some trouble with my elderly greyhound making trouble. I'm not confident in my ability to get them back in the pen at any time if we have to leave or if Bailey has to go out ... so for now ... they are in the pen for their own safety.

From what I've heard Marek's is progressive. My vet said eventually she'll lose all muscular control.
