Arizona Chickens

RRR-Yep, the order of chicks arrived safe and sound. They sent 27, and I got rid of 10-four to Shaun to give to his broody silkie, and six to a family that was just getting into chickens. My broodys accepted two more, which means I've got a brooder on my patio full of little fuzzy butts. Although hopefully that won't be for too much longer.

O.K. We had our first multiple egg collection day (neighbor picked up two while we were out of town). The big speckled one is from Phylis the Delaware I got from Mahonri she has been laying well and the tan one I believe to be from the BO I got from him as well, she is the one that laid while we were gone. The other could be from Bacon the Ancona I got from him but I think that her eggs will be whiter and bigger. Or it could be Basil the Cochin with chicks, how soon do they start to lay after hatching chicks? And last it could be a pullet bullet from one of my 17 week old BR or my RIR but that doesn't seem as likely. I think it's Basil's.

Also several times now Phylis's eggs have had a dented end, probably the bedding has been pushed away from where they landed I might try some kind of mat underneath it. All of them are eating start and grow right now and there are egg shells for the layers, when I run out of feed I'll probably switch to flockraiser does that sound right?

So it very well could have been her, I've seen her in there off and on but she has never laid it would be cool if she is off to a start.

and speaking of the days getting shorter. . . .I took the plunge and handed in my resignation at work. I will be a "retired person" on August 31st. I am so much looking forward to using my energies for private gardeneing, painting, making music, reading, and owning my own time. . ..
