Arizona Chickens

Also, if the neighbors have barking dogs I wouldn't even bother checking with them. Incessantly barking dogs are way more annoying than roosters.

Ain't that the truth! I used to have a neighbor that had 4 huge hunting dogs in his backyard (FYI: It's illegal in my town to have more than 3 full-grown dogs without an animal shelter license). Any time one of them started barking, the whole pack would freak out. They once started at 8 pm and didn't shut up until after 11 pm. I've also discovered that kids can be more annoying than roosters, not that I don't like my neighbors or kids in general, but just because you are outside is no reason to scream like a banshee all of the time.

My kids do this sometimes and wonder why they feel the need? Usually it's the 2 youngest. It's like a game they play

Yep - spring equals broody. I have one in the broody breaker right now - she'll probably need three days. I have the cheeky wing clipped leghorn who has a clutch of eggs somewhere - I just haven't found it or her (not totally good) but I have seen sign she has come to eat a couple times - oh and I don't have a rooster so those eggs are going to be ugly! I have five 8 week old chicks in the littles pen so not looking to get any more. Good Luck!!

Oh my gosh, yes!!! I allowed my broody White Rock hen to hatch a few eggs, but really don't have room for the rest of the broodies. So far two Naked Necks and one Dorking-mix are also broody and every time I think I got them over it they go right back to sitting on golf balls in nesting boxes.

Just tagged and weighed my first batch of Cornish X chicks at 3 weeks of age. Average weight of 37.45 ounces, with the fattest being 43.7 oz, and the smallest 31.25 oz.
I googled a Cornish X average growth chart, and my birds are significantly heavier than what it shows, both in individual weight and average weight.
For those who have raised meatballs before, is it time to start cutting back on their feed? I am currently free feeding Nutrena turkey starter at 30% protein.
