Arizona Chickens

Arrrrrgh the suspense is killing me!

And you folks aren't doing a whole lot to kill the time, I hope you realize that!

Even my two year old is playing happily by himself for once. SOMEONE DISTRACT ME DAMMIT

The EE looks like "Helen".

The chick looks like it's going to be black around the head and blue everywhere else... it will be gorgeous.. I hope it's a pullet.

If it's a roo I'll take it...)

I hope those other eggs hatch.

Got our first egg today..... we were expecting our BR to be first but was surprised to find a beautiful pastel green egg in the nest box right next to the white wooden eggs we had placed there. Here are a few pics......

Congrats on the egg!

The little chick is doing great, standing up and everything.

The other eggs are still eggs

It has only been a day, so the silkies should wait for the other eggs for another day or two right?

Would it be better if I put the little chick under a heat lamp to give the other eggs more time before the silkies give up? Or, do they already *know* a chick hatched, and regardless of where it is, will still give up in a day or two?

Or, should I take one silkie inside along with the chick and leave the other with the eggs? Or, will it be too hard to reintroduce them later?

Or is it best to leave everything be?

I'm so full of Olive Garden bread sticks I can hardly move.

Our 9/2 hatch is done. We have 3 EE and 5 SLW. One EE is a bit bald. It had a human hand at hatching and was a bit stuck in its shell. The 3 in the front are the ee's and the rest are SLW.

I'm really excited about the gets I got from Dar, a little more than a week and they should be hatching!

In other news, the twins are cutting their 15 month molars and they are miserable. The baby just turned 5 months. And I think she is cutting teeth too. She's not too grumpy.

Thought I would share pics of the kids...the older kids are too cool for photos lately.

Awwwww! They are cute! The chicks and the kids!

When mine was cutting teeth (what a horrible time that was!) "snow cones" helped a little... a food processor or blender is enough to cut up the ice.

What am I saying, sometimes NOTHING helped.

One of the ameraucana eggs is starting to hatch! I think that this one and maybe one more will hatch. (When I candled them only 3 were doing anything, and one of those rolled a bit from the hens one night and got cold.)

The marans eggs and a couple ameraucana eggs are in my friend's 'bator. I thought it would be a good idea to keep the marans together. Gotta call tomorrow! I know you are curious Mahonri

Not sure who gave me the beautiful green egg..... it was either Matilda

or it was Penny.

The other two chicken should lay brown eggs so I guess I'll have to watch and see. We were just sure our first egg would come from our BR Nellie but as usual, they fooled us.

I'm guessing Matilda...

Well I rehomed my Red, Blue tailed EE roo and my Blue Salmon Faverolle Roo tonight. They will go to my cousin's farm way out west beyond the 303.
