We have three dogs (ages 1, 7 and 13) and don't treat any of them for heartworm. The vet has never brought it up and they seem to be doing all right. We just stick to a regular vaccine schedule and never feed them table scraps (except eggs, of course..they each get an egg a day!)Hey guys, I know a lot of you have dogs. I'm wondering if any of you treat for heartworm? Why or why not?
If you do, do you treat year round or only when the skeeters are around?
I'm on the fence about it.
Having worked at three different veterinary clinics in Arizona I can tell you that heartworm is not a problem in the desert. The majority of cases we saw were in dogs that lived close to rivers or had been taken on vacation to another state that had more of a mosquito problem. Where mosquitos are active for at least half the year. We only get mosquitos here for short periods during the monsoons, really, they aren't active long enough. Making heartworm a rare occurance here.We have three dogs (ages 1, 7 and 13) and don't treat any of them for heartworm. The vet has never brought it up and they seem to be doing all right. Hatched February 1st. All my roos are getting pretty rambunctious, and I already have one pullet that I think may be laying. I caught her the other day climbing into a nest, and found a smaller pullet sized egg in it at the end of the day. Four months old is pretty darn early for that, but not unheard of.I'm not exactly sure. He was already feathered when I got my White NN breeding group from @cactusrota a few months back. He wasn't crowing while all of those other roosters were still out there, but now seem's to be more at ease with trying to take over the hens.
We have six dogs and do not treat. Never saw a flea or tick since we moved here. Two of them have been stung by scorpions but I think the chickens have taken care of them.Hey guys, I know a lot of you have dogs. I'm wondering if any of you treat for heartworm? Why or why not?
