Arizona Chickens

@SonoranChick Yes, those Orp's and Lorp's have a ton of feather's, as I just found out how many that the Australorps had the other day. No wonder why they get so hot here in the summer and pant like crazy!

@StevenKeith He just posted that here not long ago, so he should still have some, I think. @howesmr doesn't seem to check the thread here too often, so you might do better by sending him a pm through here.

@cactusrota glad you are back sorry for the pic loss bummer many havent been posting or it would of been 12 pages lol

How many chickens does everyone have? I know sonoranchic has 10, and desertChic has over 60 I think and blueBaby probably has more than can count but what about everyone else? Igorsmistress, michelle, Jadeson, featherpugs ... cactusrora cavemanrich Morrison7k nicole etc. (If you want to share) I have 27 chickens (sorry if I forgot someone)

I have 9 chickens...2 blue and 1 black Australorps, 2 RIR, 2 NN, 1 EE, 1 Welsummer.

@SMorrison7k Welcome - we have a number of folks in the Tucson area - I'd have to look again to orient myself to Dragoon/Dragoon Mts but Wilcox comes to mind. Sounds like you have cooler weather than most of us. You have quite a crew of chickens - I do enjoy the eye candy of diversity. I've recently added Naked Necks to my flock - they are about 10/11 weeks old now. Amazing how laid back they are.
@BlueBaby - bet you are on the coyotes black list now! Glad you figured out the rooster thing. I'm not much good at eating mine but do. Those marinates look great. We use lemon pepper often but I'm betting we could use others as long as I refine it for my DH gerd/esophogus disease - no too heave on spices these days!
@SonoranChick - I use DE- food grade - at the bottoms of my nest boxes - not a lot but enough to put the bugs to rest. I also put some in the giant holes where they like to dust bathe - just mixed in with the other moon dust. Just be moderate in your use and keep the dust away from the chickens. You don't want to breathe it - so neither do they. Generally I do it at dusk when everyone's roosting.
Stay safe in the heat friends - I think its here to stay.[/QUOTE]
@cactusrota - I like greased lightening - reverse and get the pics off here - then you'll have some. You just never know what will set off a firestorm!

I have 30 hens, 3 roosters, and 13 chicks at the moment!

@nicollee so sorry to hear about your svart hona gal :( I hope you're able to rebuild your flock with some new feathered friends soon.
@SMorrison7k I also realized today just how dense those feathers are...soaking the BO for 5 mins and rubbing the water into her underside, she still had dry areas of soft fluff when she came out! Pretty impressive little coats they are sporting.

:gig so true! Poor babies in the desert

This evening before the sun went down I was outside by the coop, and I heard the White NN cockerel crow for the first time. He has already started trying to breed the hens.
How old?
Omg. All three of the eggs under my Emma are peeping. I’m so excited.

Yayyy!:jumpy we'll need baby pics soon! ;):pop
