Arizona Chickens

It got pretty hot out there today. I hope that everyone's flock's survived the heat. It has to be bad on the older flock member's to have to deal with it.

The past few months I had been re-grouping my flock of what I will be working with. My current oldest flock member is now a year old. Everyone else is younger than she is.

So, the light blue girl is a redhead? I see that the colored feathers stayed on her chest and bowtie.
Yep. Wanna see something interesting? The dark one behind her here is little rooster from the mid April broody hatch. He's peacomb, so I'm not sure if he was out of the green egg laying hen I got from you or one of the other peacomb hens I have , but he has the same pattern as her and a very dark blue. He's also the biggest out of that hatch.. Only 2 months old and look how big he's gotten!! He's almost as big as her already!

Well, she most likely got her comb from her Blue Australorp daddy. If you want to try for more light blue one's like her, I still have 2 of the Blue Australorp boy's here that you could put one of them back to that green egg peacombed hen. :D

I already have way too many roosters.. Plus I still have that splash boy I was going to sell to you before all the red leakage showed up. He's still pretty as ever.. That's another bird I need to get some current pics of. Plus Big Blue is still so handsome with his gold bling!

You have a lot of color combination's going on with yours now. For right now, I will be mostly trying to breed mine to get cleaner necks and trying to get rid of the big bowties. I am wondering however, what the chicks will look like from the CCLB girls and the White NN roo. Do you think that they might come out sort of a light brown with the wild type feathering and the crests?

Hazel has made friends already. She is as sweet as can be. I wonder what I would get if I hatched a black silkie over her. Could be interesting.

Glad that she is working out for you. As far of the crossing her with a black silkie goes I have no idea, but I guess you won't know until you try it later. Hazel should lay mint green eggs when she's old enough.

Ants. hate them. Glad to say senior frog has moved into the run and is happily eating the ants I need one more on the other side of the run, and one for China

I had to do the rubbing alcohol burn in her coop before roosting time tonight to get rid of the ant army

Doesn't the burn way just kill the ant's that you can see, and not the queen and eggs in the ant hill? I've been trying to take care of it all, so I don't have to keep re-doing it every few day's.
