@FeatherPugs ... with car buying it really sucks ever since cash for clunkers happened...
How does cash for clunkers affect car buying????

@SodellThis is the wettest October I think I have ever seen, and I've been in the area for 25 years.
Me too, last few year we've been sweating it out...
I'm enjoying the coolness, even through the puddles. I think the tortoise den might not make it though...

@Sodell - I'm off Hanna Road and my yard is totally wet too PLUS I sprung a leak in my coop roof, its 10 years old, - couldn't do it today but tomorrow, fingers crossed, I'll tarp it! The rest I've put down straw for now, don't like straw but it does what @igorsMistress says it does. We'll get some more dirt in there later. This is the wettest October I think I've ever seen down here and we've been in AZ over 30 years. Even the Verde Valley wasn't this wet in October. Crazy weather.
Wow! Hanna Road your pretty close to me. I'm out past Bianco Rd off Gila Bend HWY. So cool. The chicks seem to be doing good this morning before I left. We didn't get as much rain as I was expecting last night. Maybe my coops can dry up now. Hope your feeling better.

The temp has been nice through all of the rain though and mosquitoes have went away. I love the rain. It was much needed.

Bc they weren't clunkers, you can see video of really good cars being destroyed, now there are fewer used cars and the new car market pricing is extreme!!
I can buy more land and a small home for the price to replace my totalled vehicle

Supply and demand, supply and demand. It was a flawed idea that only helped some in the moment imo

@Sodell Only a sprinkle here - almost nothing. Super cool this am - I put on sleeves!! Things are drying up pretty well right now. Hopefully we have a few days for me to get "stuff" done.
@meetthebubus I'm not totally sure about the clunkers thing. This is considered a used car and a specialty type car. The company AZMobility in Phoenix valley buys the used chassis and put in the ramp conversion then sell them as used cars with warranties. The vehicle I picked out was a 2017 black (not my favorite but not ugly either) Dodge Caravan with less than 3,000 miles, with lots of bells and whistles including back up camera and backseat DVD. I got a 75,000 mile warranty. I paid under $30, for it - I could have gotten a 2018 with higher mileage and $1400 more. I consider it cheap in the realm of handicapped accessible vehicles - most are over $45, and none with the rear entry ramp. I just need to get it home. Basically looks like this

Hello fellow Arizonians! I just got my first flock of hens back in mid September, and they're ALL molting, so I'm getting almost zero eggs at the moment. Haha. For some of them, this is their first molt and for others it's their second. It's a mixed flock of 2 BC Marans (2 yrs), 2 Dixie Rainbows (18 mos), 3 Ameraucanas (2 yrs) and an Olive Egger (18 mos). I do have one Dixie Rainbow who is laying 5 eggs a week RIGHT through a hard molt. :idunnoBut other than that, production has come to a screeching halt.
So my question is: about what time of year do they start laying again in this region?

Nice of you to join us @MissLavender Different breed's can lay best at different times of the year. When they are molting, they will be needing a higher protein feed. It takes allot out of them to replace the feathers, so that is taking away from the egg laying.

Hey, thanks for the response! :) Right now I am feeding a 16% protein organic layer feed, and supplementing with black oil sunflower seeds (about 10% of their daily ration until the weather warms back up), cottage cheese (roughly 2 tbsp per bird every couple of days) and a handful of mealworms tossed out into the yard for them to "hunt" when I let them out of the coop in the morning. They also get some table scraps, such as leafy greens and the odd apple core, and the occasional scrambled egg. Does that sound about right, or do I need to adjust their feed?
