Arizona Chickens

I'm glad that Hazel is laying good for you. The Australorp's put out eggs better than the CCLB's do so that is why I made that cross, hoping that the pullets from it would lay eggs better and to also have some green eggs too.

I have 2 incubators here that are sitting empty right now, I guess that I need more eggs to put in them now. I told hubby that I would make sure that I wouldn't be in the middle of a hatch during the boat races the first weekend in Nov. So, if I start another one going soon, it would be ok. ;)

@BlueBaby -- enabler!! Love it.
Yes a frizzle is genetic. You don't always get them BUT if you have a frizzle that you breed and I'm not sure which way you have better odds of getting a frizzle. They are mostly the smaller breeds too I believe. I haven't looked it up in a long time so I'm not totally positive of the info. Periodically I have seen a frizzle bantam chick at tractor supply. I do big breeds and not bantams.
My eggs have gone down a bit too as girls continue to molt. I usually have the one two three molt followed by another two or three. I've had a couple that molted hard but are coming out of it now.
I'm sure I told you we got a smaller rescue girl. Part Pug and part chihuahua - a Chug whose is about 6 years old. She loves the chicken yard but wants to get in the chicken's nests. She is just plain curious why those chickens are in there. AND she would love it if a chicken would chase her - she does that posture where they are wanting to play. She is a riot. She is a true featherpug! 20181014_101405_resized.jpg 20181014_101414_resized.jpg

I really don't think that you are ever going to get an egg out of that chug no matter how long she stays in the nesting box! :lau

@meetthebubus how many roos do you have now? Just two? I know you have the Mr. Marshmallow fellow and a buff roo, I just can't remember if there were any others. And where did you get your Easter eggers from?
Yes Mr marshmellow man is with the eggers, Mr Roo bubu with the buffs, and well China is half rooster who does croak out crows better than what she first did 2 years ago lol so there are 3 crowers

I got the eggers from Shoppers in Chandler, they had 20 eggers, 20 red sexlinks and 20 black australorps, i was going for 10 eggers when hubby came in and said get 20 (gotta love him!) And as soon as I was in the car I looked in the box And noticed little chica wasn't ok she died hours later at home, but the other 19 survived and they were only like 2 days old when i got them, they all had pasty butt and it took 2 cleanings and one we saved her life bc after cleaning her she pooped a ton!

Anyhow I've resorted to giving away eggs bc some say they don't eat eggs so they don't want to buy any, then when they hear they are free they are more than happy to take... sigh....

I consume as many as I can but I dont want any to go to waste as all the bubus work very hard!

Chickens can go to roost by themselves, they always do their last minute things whether it's drinking eating grit, etc. Then they will go to roost at dusk, no luring needed. they need,,imo, the power hour to go satisfied and better produce those eggs. My first batch of chickens I lured them to bed before dusk but later I found that they'll go themselves with a nice full crop and wake up empty and ready to eat again :)

so cute! I can imagine that funny girl!
It's not about luring them to roost. It's about getting them into the coop, so they don't roost in the trees.
Five is still terrifying the Alohas, so they need some convincing to get into the coop with her.

Wow that's awesome that so many of your Easter eggers turned out to be females! And I thought I got too many eggs over here with my ten hens...you could open up an egg farm over there!
