Arizona Chickens

@Geranium what size is your roost pole? Your choice of course, but I like to use the widest size so they can rest more of their bodies

Also they might soon want a higher roost chickens in my experience feel safer higher up

Just a thought :frow

Something must have gotten one of my yard rooster's during the night last night, because only 2 of them came to greet me when I went out to feed everyone. I didn't see him anywhere in the yard. My chicken's are still in molt, so there's so many feather's around that I wouldn't be able to tell what one's were his, if any, and there is no body.

One of the reasons I immediately replaced the girls' shade. The downed shade opened up a swoop spot. With the shade in place there is no place to swoop to try to pick up a chicken. You can tell too as the chicken girls are much more at ease and not always looking up. We've had more raptors than usual around this area so far this year. Came home yesterday to where a hawk had gotten a dove and ate it in the area by our ramp. I immediately went into the yard and counted chickens!! Stay safe and happy everyone.

@meetthebubus that's a 2x4 narrow side up. Their actual roosts will be 2x4s flat side up, above that one. I'm going to leave that one as is, though, as a stepping stone to the higher roosts, and for future chicks. I figure narrow side up is ok for their smaller/ lighter bodies for now, plus narrow side up will catch less poo when they're roosting above it. I'm in full nag mode with the husband to get their roost made. Hopefully this weekend.
