Arizona Chickens

That's so cool she's excited about eggs!

Fugly has 6 girls but one isn't speaking to him ever again and tge others beat him up if he tries to mate. That doesn't mean I'm not getting fertile eggs though. Randy little buggar!

Yes, I think I have converted her, and it all started because she didn't want me to cull that last cockerel so she asked me for him. She wanted it for a pet. Well, now you know I couldn't let one go by itself (he would have been trying to hop the fence and come back), so I gave her a couple. But then he became a teenager, and the girl was still to young and was getting worn out trying to run away from him. So we carried 3 girl's that were already laying egg's over there, too. That gave Roxy a break from Rooster Cockburn (her choice of name, not mine).

Finally feeling better today. No 100% but much better. I haven’t been this sick in 20 yrs. I’m going to try to go to work tomorrow.

As for the flock I can tell they misses me. I spent most of today with them. The babies are turning out so pretty. The black one I’m pretty sure is a boy the 2 paints have me guessing still. I’m going to dna test them to be sure. My new incubator should be at tsc today so will pick it up this week. Would love for Emma to lay another few eggs. She hasn’t laid since Saturday. Gotta love silkies but not good in the egg laying department.

Glad that you are feeling better now!

I've heard tell that the reason why silkies aren't good in the egg laying department, is because they will only lay a few egg's and then go broody again. Well, at least you still have Hazel's eggs to make your sandwich for your work lunch with. :gig

I love the name she picked for him :gig

I never have cared where the girls lay. Sometimes I'll find one in the corner of the coop, but they all got around to mostly using the boxes eventually.

Well, I had set her up with the girls that would lay different egg's, and told her when she got them from me that it was going to be an egg hunt and she wouldn't have to wait until Easter for it to happen. :lau

Help, need suggestions for the least traumatic way to catch chickens. I'm thinking snag them off their roosts at night, a friend who has freezer chickens, will herd them all into the coop, block the door and then catch them there.. I've watched the videos on using chicken hooks, fish/pool nets, etc..

You can wait until dark to snag them off the roost and hope that you didn't grab a hen instead. I just use a fishing net in the daytime to catch the extra roosters, when I can see that it's not a hen. That way I am only removing the boy's that I don't want to use for my breeder's. You got to be quick though, because they will try to avoid being caught with it.
