Arizona Chickens

:) Hi, waiting on my hatch to hatch..lol, set 6 eggs, had to take one out last night that I knew didn't make it, have 2 that I think are quitters and then the other 3 I'm praying, these are to see what I get in colors, still don't know for sure which of the wingettes is laying the blue eggs. I'll find out yet.. Have just had to soak a hen, she was in the nestbox crying, I'm not sure if she is egg bound or not, I couldn't feel anything. I've given her a bath, got a bunch of poo off her butt and she's now hanging out in a tote in the house, have water with electrolytes and some scrambled eggs with oyster shell, I'll move her back to the coop tomorrow afternoon. Hoping that the bath and stuff will solve the issue. Listening to her cry about killed me.

I hope that the hen is going to be ok.

I believe she's going to be fine, I'd wrapped her up in the towel to take her back to the coop, she'd not been out of the towel 10 mins and tried starting a fight with another hen :lau . Was just out there this morning and she was looking for a place other than the nest box to lay. These girls are to smart for my good.. they can and will defeat anything I try to do to get them to lay in the coop, they've managed to by pass the chicken wire and board I put up on the TSC coop to keep them out from behind it, they jump on the roof of it and then down behind and squeeze out through a 3 inch gap. They managed to get in the storage area under my work table, push out the pet carrier I had blocking the area and 3 of them laid up under there. I had to chicken wire that off to keep them out. There were two still trying when I left the coops. The chicken in a bucket, I compromised with her, found a big flower pot, put shavings in it and had to screw it to the wall yesterday, found a egg in it this morning. The NN who's laying the blue eggs, laid one in the run again this morning. She lays every other day, so I am going to have to get up one morning and plan on spending the day out there to find out who it is. Have collected 15 eggs this morning and keep hearing the " I'm going to lay a egg " song.. so should have a bunch more this evening. Do your NN's sound like their being killed when they lay? first time I heard it, I went to check and see if one of the others were pecking them to death.

I’ve been buying chicks. So far I have an Easter Egger, buff Orpington, prairie bluebell, golden crested polish and a blue crested polish. These are all pullets for eggs.
It’s so nice to be able to buy chickens without a worry from neighbors.
It’s cold here tonight Down to 11 degrees and been raining all week.
I’ll post some pictures when I get some.

Yes they do - especially if someone is in "their" nest!! Mine are still not laying well. I still have molters - or end of molters. I want to spray for bugs etc this weekend because the weather is great but jeez - I flake out so easy!!
My girls might be up where they should be, but I guess I am spoiled out of my black sexlinks, 12 girls and a dozen a day for a while, but I can't fuss to much, sold 34.00 in eggs in the past three days, paid for most of their feed today. I sell to regular customers for 2.00 a dozen and the American Legion for 1.50, they turn around and sell them for 2.00 and put that extra into one of their projects they have going on, like sending stuff overseas to the troops, repairs on the post, etc, it's not much but every little bit helps. Just collected a total of 29 eggs today..

@starri33 It sound's like you are having fun with your flock over there, and that they are keeping you on your toes.

I got my first Barnevelder pullet egg today! It's a pretty color. Roger roo was in the nesting box with her to help make sure that the older girl's didn't try to run her out until she was done laying. The other 2 Barnevelder pullet's should start laying soon also.

How's Hazel and Precious doing?

Congratulations :) , I'm not sure if they are keeping me on my toes, trying to drive me crazy or kill me..lol. What color is the egg? I've had some of my roo's in the nest box, but it's generally because it's a way to keep the other roo's from beating them up. I had to chase Big Boy out of the nest a couple of times, one of the eggs had broken and I think he was up there looking for more, I chased him out and reminded him he wasn't a hen and had no business there. Getting them laying for you will be great, are you going to keep them for breeding? see what you come up with for colors from them?

Roger had already started breeding the Barnevelder girl's the other day, and I had seen them starting to get interested in checking out the nesting box area. I knew that they were due to start laying anytime now. The Barnevelder egg sort of look's like a medium reddish brown to me. I'm going to crack that one open tonight for Buster's med to see the inside of it. Yes, I plan to hatch some of those egg's from those Barnevelder's later when the egg's get a little bit bigger. They should help to make some pretty feather patterned NN's, and more egg color's in mine.
