Arizona Chickens

I'm outside of Phoenix, we have a strange storm as we speak! Things get zapped by lightning regularly by me.

It just sprinkled here a bit while I was in there checking on my hatch. I now have 3 Naked Neck's and 1 Black Sexlink down in the brooder, and 2 more of the Black Sexlink's look like they are starting to hatch out.

Happy Mother's Day! That includes all of us, whether we have any human children or not. We still have our 2 legged babies that happen to have wing's! ;)

I’m still trying to talk the wife into more chickens 😒 seriously divorce is allowed if she doesn’t let me get more. Right? I mean the coop is big enough for 20 and we have 6 acres I could let them free range on... 🤷‍♂️

Lots of shade; lots of water. Install an automatic waterer. Miss water one day, and you are out of the chicken business. Put a lawn sprinkler in the chicken yard on a timer so that it goes off several times a day.

The rains we have had in the last couple of days produced a bounty of grass and weeds. Chickens love dandy lions, mustard weed and winter grass. Let them go at it.

We are in Tucson. We have a mister system in the coop and one in the run area toi. Also they love watermelon and that us good for internal hydration. I use ice in water barrels in late summer in Arizona. Mo matter barrel it gets too hot for them to drink. Abd keep in shade all the time (water).

I use those empty washed out cottage cheese container's to freeze water in for ice. It's easy to get the block of ice out for their water, and then freeze some more in. If you don't eat cottage cheese, any similar container like that will work as well.
