Arizona Chickens

Good morning AZ. Hope you all have a great day! I brought Angus in for a soak, some Silvex and a fresh bandage on his foot. Haven't lost any more birds to heat and I'm planning to update the side walls of the coop in spring next year to HWC. Not sure how I'm going to manage the pop door, I like them having two doors in case they need to escape. @Parront do you have a pop door in yours?

I did it again....set another dozen silkie eggs. I just can’t help myself. 3 are pipped on the current batch. Only 6 made it to lockdown.

on a sad note lost 2 of my layers to heat I think. Lucy my polish we found a week ago right outside the coop and Wednesday I found Cali one of my calico princesses in the coop. I put a container with cold water in the run and have 8 water bottles in the freezer to put some in the water and the rest around the run. It’s supposed to get really hot this weekend so will be watching them closely. We also didn’t lock them in the coop tonight. Hopefully it will be cooler for them.

Hey, I thought that you said that it's cooler up there than it is over here. Sorry that you lost some.:hugs

Long story short, maybe!! I spent 3 months or so with anemia and running down the bleed. It was cancer in my colon. I have since had a very ugly colon cancer surgery, have railroad tracks all up and down my abdomen stem to stern and a new colostomy. OMG it hurt like hell. I mean really hurt. 4 pints of blood later and a week in the hospital I am now home and working hard to recover while trying to finish up the last of my house sale. My oldest daughter is a saint. She has been here, fed me, cleaned up after me and put stuff away in my new apartment all while battling the heat - she is from WA. Yes I still hurt, no I don't know what is next, chemo, etc and maybe I'll even make the closing date for the house. I did lose one girl to the heat. Its hard when you aren't there and you can't baby them along as you usually would. My helpers are good tho, they ice them, ice bottle them and get them from one day to the next. I keep up with you all and your crazy hatching and the 50 drops of rain where you HOPE against hope it'll turn into at least a 10 minute downpour. All of you stay well and be cool. ........... mary

It's so good to hear from you! You've been through so much :hugs I hope whatever comes next is easy on you Mary. It's good to know you have great help, the heat has been brutal and sometimes there's nothing we can do. Good luck with the house and everything, and hugs to your daughter too for being awesome!

good morning AZ. I was looking at the forecast and the temps are going to be better but ugh! the mugginess is awful. We've had ants bad this year, my poor pups were getting bitten, hopefully whatever hubs sprayed on the grass yesterday will help. Stay healthy, stay cool!
