Some pictures that were taken today of my little Silver Grey Dorking's that I am growing out.

Very pretty!! How old are they now?

The lady that I bought these 8 from said that she got them from Murry McMurry's, and that they were a middle of July hatch of this year. The male is the darker colored one, and has the black chest feather's on him.

They already look pretty, i looked up the adult photos of the breed and they are really beautiful. I like their shorter legs.

I got my coop "extension" today.. i think i will paint the original coop along w the new part so it is an easy spray and wipe. It isn't difficult w the enzyme spray i have, but it is so painted so thin, its almost like unfinished wood.

Once that is done, i am going to try my sand litter idea. Im going to use the 1" deep trays i have now, but i think it will fail and I'll have to go w the 4" deep pans. But.. it'll be nice if it doesn't require the extra modification. I will also move the coop over an area rug so any sand that escapes can be vacuumed up.

Right now the girls are very content.. so i hope bringing in two more won't be disruptive. They will have a long introductory time side by side. Ive never seen any of them mean to each other, hopefully that stays. Their new nesting area is big enough to hold layers and broody mamas at the same time

I hope they do.. it'll be a while, the cochin chicks are only a week and a half old.. but mixing between the D'Uccles and silkies, hopefully they will all be friendly with each other.

Im not sure what age is best to integrate.. i want them to have a little size on them, maybe at least 6-8 weeks.

OK, I broke the lockdown to candle the eggs. Four or five of them had a thick dark blob that is the same size it was when I candled them a few weeks ago. They should have grown by now, so they probably died in the egg. Two green eggs are too dark to tell, and the one light one where I saw something moving is now completely dark. The rest were duds.

Younger is truly better. The larger they are the more competition they are to the bigs. Putting them side by side now and then letting them mingle when the chicks are 4ish weeks old will be easier than waiting.

Ok, i can do that... i was concerned about the light from the heat lamp bothering my big girls...
Do you think they REALLY need the heat lamp? My house is 78-80.. gets to 76 at night. There's 5 little ones cuddling.. they are approaching 2 weeks old.
