Arizona Chickens

My Barred Hollands have been laying for almost 2 months now, eggs are larger than the were at the beginning. They might always be smaller than the Leghourn eggs.
I am eying the incubators at the Tractor Supply;)! But, the soonest date I got for the chicks from Sandhill Preservation is April 6. Pretty close to the Easter due date. I've been waiting on them for a year, so I do not think I want to hatch more until after I get those.

Egg's from those 2 White Rock's will be in with my batch. Also some from my green egg laying NN.

I have 39 chicks on order from Sandhill:
4 Barred Hollands
10 RI Red
10 White Rock
5 Red Dorking
10 Assortment
I only have the Wyandotte in that pen that I really want to try hatching crossed with Roger. She's the only brown egg layer in that pen, easy to know her eggs. Not sure if her eggs are fertile but will try them when I get enough to fill my incubator with the Barred Hollands.

I might try one of the other hens eggs in Roger's pen but I'd have to be right there to see a specific breed lay it to know who's egg it is since they are all large white eggs mostly the same size.

Will let you know when you might be a grandma so you can prepare!!!
I am thinking of what the NN hens I have might hatch with the Barred Holland Cockerel. They lay nice large eggs, green and light tan. It might be interesting to see, just to test a new incubator, you know!:lau That would make @BlueBaby a Grandma twice!

Just do it! :lau

I don't want any more of these White Rock's though, but maybe the offspring crossed with my NN rooster will act better. One of the White Rock's keeps grabbing Louie by the wattle's.

I wonder if the green egg layers daughters with the white laying Barred Holland would still be green? Maybe a lighter green? Or only 1/2 the chicks would get the green gene?

The White Rocks are the top of the pecking order around here, too. They are the biggest, except the the silver NN I got from you. The NN are very mild mannered for their size. The Sandhill White Rocks are supposed to be bigger. Nice large white cockerels to eat for a change! I want to compare them with the White Rocks I got last year from Ideal, that you have. The Ideal Rocks are pretty good layers, with the largest eggs I get (except for that big NN pullet)!

I believe that all the offspring would get the green gene also, but the green that the pullet's would lay could be a lighter shade of green. You've got to try it to find out.

I remember you had the Breese chickens a while ago. Are there any trace genes in your flock from them.?
Do the White rocks look very similar (size, and shape) to the Bresse?

Yes, I did. The first set of the White NN's I got were also 1/2 White Breese. I still have 2 NN's that are from that, one is plain white and the other one is the green egg laying one that is mixed with Crested Cream Legbar too. Both of those girl are still laying well and have nice shaped egg's.

The White Rock's do not have the blue or slate leg's that the Breese do.

@Parront My order of those 100 Jumbo egg carton's are out for delivery and should be here by 9:00 P.M.
I am interested to see how large an egg they fit. My ducks laid 3 eggs the other morning, pretty soon they will be larger, right now they still fit in a regular carton. A guy at our farmer's market sells his for $9.00/dozen.
