Arizona Chickens

They are on a layer feed and calcium. They have a dust bath with DE in it. My BO def had lice, I knew by checking her vent, but I don't see any today. Her legs look kind of irritated but not sure if that's normal or not? Her poop is on the runny side but again as I'm new to chickens I'm not sure if it's a normal runny or a bad runny. I'll try the garlic. I have dried lavender and rosemary, wonder if either of those herbs would help in the coop?

What about leg mite's? Those are a separate thing from the lice.

Maybe they were so fuzzy because they were still wearing the winter coats?
Down is what ducks do! When they start shedding that winter coat, you get pinfeathers, :lau!!!! even worse, you can't singe those off. There were some short broken feathers from the drakes fighting that were not fun, either. Curly tail = Duck Harvest Day!

Well, if you hatch all of those egg's, you will end up with a bunch of curly tail's.

Sure would be nice to have a community of BYC plucking machine. We could maybe all pitch in and share it?! Ducks have a lot of feathers. Next meat birds are NNs!:he
yes and have you ever tried to skin a bird full of feathers? I ended up just taking the breasts and legs after I was trying to work around all the feathers to gut it, and started to smell poo...

With a small bird like a wild quail, I have just taken the breast meat. Just slit it down the center of the breast, like a fish, cut off the breast meat. Believe me I was wanting to do that yesterday, but I was already started. It would be just such an expensive dinner if I had to buy a plucker to do only 2 ducks! Our library has things you can check out. That would be a good thing for the library, to go along with the seeds!

Funny you mention the LIBRARY. :old Our library does not have pluckers, (we are city slickers) but they have a bunch of other things. DW brought home an ''Air fryer" to try out. After a test drive, we decided it was a good thing. Went to Sam's and purchased one. I also purchase second one for one of my DD's as Christmas Gift. :thumbsup

So Prescott Library has seeds? I've been getting seeds from Mesa & Tempe libraries for years but I haven't even got a Prescott Lib card yet.
