I will check out facebook, thanks. I will have 1 extra male, it seems a shame to eat a rare breed, but I eat the Barred Hollands. No one wants extra males. I will be happy with 1 nice cockerel and 2 pullets of the Dorkings. The rest of his harem will be 5 nice Naked Neck hens.

That's the reason I suggested it. It would b a shame to let a member of a rare breed go. And it's why I'd like to get more cuckoo colored Leghorns. Not a rare breed, but just a rare color of a common breed.

Sandhill preservation carries Barred Leghorns, it says in the description it is more cuckoo pattern than barred. This is the first year that I have seen them in his list, they were only offered as part of an assortment this year. I would expect that you could order them separately next year. It is nice to have a variety of sources. Leghorns are good layers, no matter what color they are!

If you had an extra silver grey Dorking male, I'd be planning a road trip.

That would make an interesting mix--cuckoo colored Leghorns and silver grey Dorkings. No idea how the color would turn out, but maybe breed for great egg laying ability, 5 toes, and whatever interesting traits show up? LOL!

Here she is now -- she is the one with the black and white on the right & the other one is one that lays the nice green eggs that was a Legbar hen and her big rooster that @CaroleW has now. You can see the one on the right is quite a bit larger, both had the same rooster, Roger.

Those one's that you got from me seem to be doing good over there. I like getting update's on them from time to time.

The reason I wanted the Red Dorkings (besides that they are beautiful and rare) was to see if the 1/4 silver Dorking hen will make sex-linked meat bird chicks. I am hoping for male chicks to be light and females to be red-brown so I can tell at hatch and maybe sell the pullets -- most people here don't want crowing cockerels! The chicks that hatch with NNs and 5 toes I will probably not eat or sell, they could be the next generation of hens.
