Arizona Chickens

Nice and needed by someone for their flock goals, unfortunately, there are always more than enough roos thus the adage "breed the best and eat the rest". IF you didn't have enough roos to pick from then your flock's future generations decline in quality and maybe even quantity if your few roos can't produce.

I have to harvest some roos soon but I'm glad to be able to pick the best and to know they have all had a better life than most roos ever have a chance to live.

That's right, and it seems that most people that are looking chicken's are looking for the girl's only because they can't have a rooster where they live at.

Then it will just be trying to rehome 3 Welsh Harlequin duck's.

They are ok, but I feel that someone else will be able to give them more of what they need then I can. I don't want to turn the backyard into a giant mud hole for them, and I don't have a pond or swimming pool for them. Plus, I'm worried about having to keep the chicken's and duck's together as the males get older. My rooster and hen's might not like that. There are 2 male's and 1 female duckling that hatched out December 28th.

That is my main reason I don't own a few.... You don't know how many times I was tempted over the years. ,,, Second reason,,, is the housing issue. I have a small coop, with a small floor plan. Ducks do not roost on bars half way up the interior. I would be picking chicken gumdrops off my ducks daily

Yes, chicken gumdrop's on duck's wouldn't be too cool. The 2 males aren't very loud, but the female is though with her wack, wack, wack. It doesn't even sound like a quack to me.

Ducks are so nice looking, they'd probably be fun to have if you have a nice big pond. I have a pond, it just doesn't have water in it most of the time. When it does, there are massive amounts of mosquitoes.

I found a home for Gabriel this afternoon. One of my coworkers is interested in breeding him to her mixed breed flock for a few seasons. I told her all about his attitude, and she says she can deal with that. After a few years of running around her farm and breeding he'd eventually end up in the stewpot, but that's probably about the best I can do for him.

I found a home for Gabriel this afternoon. One of my coworkers is interested in breeding him to her mixed breed flock for a few seasons. I told her all about his attitude, and she says she can deal with that. After a few years of running around her farm and breeding he'd eventually end up in the stewpot, but that's probably about the best I can do for him.

I'd say any period of life well-lived, followed by a humane death and processing, is great! Good job!
For the ducks, I used to have them. In black canyon, where it's almost as hot as phoenix, it was much easier to keep them comfortable--they loved the mister, which was not a health hazard to ducks as it can be for chickens. And, a 20 or so gallon mixing tub was plenty for them to mate in (gotta have fertile eggs and broody ducks, followed by ducklings!) I just cleaned out that tub when I did the water buckets. If I liked the ducky taste of the eggs, it'd be great!

That's good that you found someplace for him. The lady that came here to take Trump only took him and the green egg laying girl. They didn't want to take too may and have to introduce a bunch at the same time. She's supposed to call me later to let me know how Trump is doing, because his comb got injured while we were catching him and was bleeding.
