Arizona Chickens

They are settling in - I went out to check on them (the big ones) but I forgot my camera --I'll take pics at early evening chore time to post!

The little ones are in my office with me now as I "work".
Those 2 hen's should help to keep that Bielefelder boy happy until those pullet chick's grow up.

Some of you may be newer to having chicken's. Every year an adult chicken will molt towards the fall. The feather's on them would have been looking a bit rough on them before the molt start's. Egg laying slow's down or will stop. This is because they are using the protein from the food to help regrow the new feather's in, so that protein is not going towards making those egg's. There are thing's that you can feed them besides the regular feed that will help to give them that extra protein that is needed during the molting time.

Here are 25 sources of plant protein for molting chickens.

Bielefelder roo, NN hen and Aloha hen (in far corner). They have a lot of weeds to tackle as they settle in!

Bielefelder chicks and a NN chick in the brooder in my office for now. I'll clean out a bed in the greenhouse as it gets a little cooler and they'll love it in there for the winter. IMG_20220829_133209215.jpg

Those big one's will have no problem being busy with those weed's over there. I pulled up weed's for them to munch on over here too. The little NN/Bielefelder chick was the last one in your batch that hatched. You have it's mother over there with you in that weed patch.

By the way, don't you just love how those chick's like to explore everything? :gig

Yes they are too fast to get a good pic - most were blurry. I texted the pic to neighbor and she couldn't see how many there were because their faces are all to the "ground".
