Arizona Chickens

I hope she break's quick soon, too! Last time I had a broody the other hen's were so scared to go in there to lay their egg's and layed them out in the dirt in the pen. She walked around puffed up a doing the funny clucking that broodies do any time she got out to take a break she'd peck any of the other's that came near her.
Wanna be mammas are a riot!

Once you've had a couple or more broodies you learn what to look for in them so that you can catch them to break right away before they get too deeply into it if you don't want them to hatch any chick's. I caught her at the beginning of it.

Good morning AZ. Super happy the rain isn’t a gulley washer today, we need it to soak in. Hoping the next storm does the same.

With regard to broodies, the sooner you catch them the better in my experience, especially right now while the weather is cool. All it took was a full night on the roost and no access to the nest site and voila, my girl broke. This is the second time I’ve done that in winter and it worked well, but I caught the girls right away.

Remember also to check them for bumblefoot or other apparent health issues that might be causing them to seclude themselves (because they have some trouble walking or functioning around the rest of the flock, they don't want to look weak) that might make them broody or broody-like.
Mine is just plain broody. I'll let her back out when I see that she has decided to stop being that way. In the meantime she still has food and water, and they all can see each other.

Really enjoying the rain here too! Can't wait to see this spring's wildflowers. With all the rain we've had, it should be a spectacular display!
Oooh, I hope it's a good Spring for wildflowers this year! My daughter-in-law & son are visiting in mid-March and this will be the first time she's visited AZ in the Springtime.

What state will they be coming from? Mid-March is a good time, as it will be before the heat set's in.
