Arizona Chickens

My chickens enjoy watermelon very much. I always give them ALL the rinds,, as well as the heels from both ends. :old Yes I do leave some of the red for them.:highfive: They eat the green cucumber style portion all the way to the skin.
Right now watermelons are abundant in the stores. That also translates to fair priced:yesss:

How is everyone's flocks holding up in this heat?

Any plan's for the 4th? I'm just going to stay at home and avoid the craziness. I bought some Carmel swirl ice cream that I can enjoy.
All my birds are handling it well so far. Was worried about my new coops but they're looking comfortable and I even caught a few of them sunbathing today. Nothing like seeing a bird sprawled out and still in the sun when you're worried about the heat! I got the stink eye for disturbing them 🤣

Caramel swirl...yum!

I'm glad that your's seem to be doing well.

The caramel swirl is on sale at Basha's if you have one that you go to. It's the Tillamook brand in the 1.5 quart.

We are staying home for the Fourth. One of our dogs was a stray and he really hates the fireworks so we'll be here to help him get through it. We try to run-walk him after dark (when it's cooler) to tire him out but sometimes the fireworks start as soon as the sun goes down. I love fireworks and I have no objections to them, it's just a hard thing for some dogs. I've read that low, loud booms like fireworks and thunder can actually hurt their ears.

We will hang our beautiful flag in our backyard (can't put it out front, someone would steal it) and I'll make some yummy Fourth food for us but I haven't decided on a menu yet - I need to get on that!

Hotdogs and hamburgers on the grill with hubby in an apron for the fourth here ❤️ Same here with the dogs. Three of ours are terrified. But our babies are older and have their routines for dealing with it down. We got a new puppy this year though so have to see how he does.

Yes, and some dog's ear's are really sensitive to thing's like train whistle's and siren's. They start howling for those.

It doesn't matter what you eat on the 4th. It's not about food. It was about our independence.

That's so funny. Yesterday I went out to check on the birds around midday, worried they'd be struggling with the heat. I also found one of my girls stretched out in the sun!

I do see them with their beaks open though. I've got misters running for 40 minutes on the hour during the day. Also have that shallow pool. I dumped some ice cubes in it yesterday afternoon. May do it again while this heat stays above 108.

It's reading 112 here now! Getting ready to put ice-blocks in their water buckets.
