Arizona Chickens

Out of morbid curiosity, I decided to check the water temp in our shaded bucket (just before adding an ice-block)...

I don't think it had anything to do with tea. It does make you aware of what the water they would be drinking is like before adding the ice.
Haha. Yes, that was the point I was making-- the water was about warm enough to make hot tea.

And the inner body temperature of a chicken is said to be at 102 degrees, so that water would not have cooled them down at all, huh.

I have read here somewhere (BYC) that stated,,, " Chickens will dehydrate, and not drink water that is too warm. " So even if there is water available,,, it needs to be somewhat cool.

Some idiot decided the middle of the day was a good time to do street repairs. Don't get me wrong: our streets are horrible and I'm grateful they're trying to patch some of the gigantic holes, but NOW? It's 2PM and 109F!!

We had to turn off the swamp cooler and close all our doors and windows because the house was filling up with fumes from the asphalt and the diesel trucks and making me wheeze and vomit.

I can't imagine the impact those fumes would be having on chickens right now if we had any. The only place a coop can legally be situated on our property is just a few feet from the street and where the trucks are.

One guy sat in a diesel truck just idling the engine - not moving or doing anything! - right outside our door for two hours. Wth?

Do they not understand people around here use swamp coolers that suck in all the nearby air??

We're sitting in a closed up house in the middle of the desert in July and freaking melting. ^%$#@ I feel like I'm going to pass out and my head is pounding.

We knew they were going to do road work but given that it's SUMMER I figured they'd start early and quit by 11:00 or something. Whose bright idea WAS this?!!!!
