Arizona Chickens

Some idiot decided the middle of the day was a good time to do street repairs. Don't get me wrong: our streets are horrible and I'm grateful they're trying to patch some of the gigantic holes, but NOW? It's 2PM and 109F!!

We had to turn off the swamp cooler and close all our doors and windows because the house was filling up with fumes from the asphalt and the diesel trucks and making me wheeze and vomit.

I can't imagine the impact those fumes would be having on chickens right now if we had any. The only place a coop can legally be situated on our property is just a few feet from the street and where the trucks are.

One guy sat in a diesel truck just idling the engine - not moving or doing anything! - right outside our door for two hours. Wth?

Do they not understand people around here use swamp coolers that suck in all the nearby air??

We're sitting in a closed up house in the middle of the desert in July and freaking melting. ^%$#@ I feel like I'm going to pass out and my head is pounding.

We knew they were going to do road work but given that it's SUMMER I figured they'd start early and quit by 11:00 or something. Whose bright idea WAS this?!!!!
I guess they had to do what their boss told them to do.

I bought a couple new plastic water tubs for the flock. I emptied one of the older rubber ones that looked the most warped and ran some water from the hose down a couple of holes that I seen under it. Out ran some baby mice that the chicken's grabbed for a snack. :gig

I would check with the city or county government (whoever's jurisdiction it is) to file a complaint on that idling truck too long too close too hot. They need to be more mindful of the impact on residents where they are idling like that. What if it's someone with major health issues? It could be deadly to them.

With this extended heat, have any of you noticed your chickens eating less feed?

Mine seem to be eating less but I'm unsure if it's a result of feeding evening fodder or if the heat is also playing a role.
It's the heat. I don't have much of an appetite when I'm hot neither. If you are worried about them not eating the feed enough, make some wet feed. They will eat that plus it will get more water in them too to keep them hydrated.

Anybody need a male goat for free? He has horn's and he is intact. He's been living alone, being feed and watered, but not getting any attention. The wife of my dead neighbor doesn't want Homer. He's the last animal over there that need's a home. All of the chick's, chicken's, and duck's over there will be leaving on Saturday.

Any idea of his breed and size? Have Nigerian dwarf here. Could take him if he's a little guy.

I don't know what breed he is but he's a full sized big one. She doesn't care if someone even wanted him for food, she just want's him gone so that she doesn't have to shoot him as she stated to me. My guess is that she just want's to move back to Florida and doesn't want to deal with those animal's.

He'd be too big for my tiny girl then. She could put up a pic and ad and I'm sure someone would be happy to get him ❤️ Craigslist or one of the goat Facebook pages
