Arizona Chickens

My chickens are all losing tons of feathers right now. Not just you!
I've started to notice more feather's on the ground in the chicken's pen. I think that some of the older one's are starting to molt. Is anyone else starting to see this in their flock's?
Now that you mention it, I've seen quite a few feathers on the ground in the run. Can't blame them for wanting to shed some of those feathers in this heat! 🤣

I guess that I will have to pick up some canned catfood then, to up the protein to help them through the molt. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has noticed. I thought that it was still a bit early for them to be doing that this year, but I guess I was wrong.

Everyone's beginning to molt here also. Finding pea tail feathers already! And my ducks and geese area is just starting to get that pillow fight look to it. My chickens aren't shedding much yet but I'm sure they're not far behind.

So, it wasn't just my imagination about that. :D

Just wanted to share that my Mexican elderberry is finally fruiting this year! Such small fruit but hopefully the size will increase over the years ❤️ Not enough fruit to share with the birds yet but someday!

Hey, is that an animal behind it just right side of those berries?

Might be. I zoomed in but couldn't tell. I kinda did a fast pic and run. Might be one of my banties poking around back there...they love the densely planted spots
Well, if it was then you might be sharing those berries with the chicken's after all, unless they don't leave any for you.

🥵🥵 Here comes the heat, everyone!! 🥵🥵

Our area will be highs between 107 and 113 F for the next week! (starting tomorrow)

Will be working overtime to help keep them cool. Ice blocks being made. 🧊
Big watermelon in the fridge which we will enjoy... but won't cut all the red off. The chickens will love the cold rinds with some red. 🍉

Watermelon is good for them during the higher heat. It contains a lot of sweet flavored water to help in keeping them hydrated. They are sure going to be needing it.
