I'm in Arizona too, up in the Catalina Mountains area at about 4500 elevation so I don't have to deal with the heat but I have an automatic water-er and shade cloth on the top and the side for the afternoon heat. I also will occasionally mist the ground which they really seem to like.

Hello, and welcome to our AZ. Thread! I hope that you will be able to find a good home for your boy if someone needs a rooster like yours. I already have 2 rooster's, and they get along well.

Oh, I wanted to mention I buy my chicken feed from Tucson Organics if anyone is interested...it's really good feed and they have a lot more than just chicken feed. It's all grown and milled by organic farmers, my chickens are doing really well on it!

Does anyone use Diatomaceous Earth with their chickens?

I've tried using it to keep ants out. It only kinda worked. It needs to be reapplied whenever it gets wet.

I assume Tucson Organics is in Tucson. I'm west of Phoenix. Sounds like good feed. Is it pricey?

It's 32.50 for a 50 pound bag... they are looking for other distribution points to make it easier on people. Oh, it also includes the oyster shell so it's all the inclusive. I have 18 including my rooster..

Ouch! That's pricey, but probably in the norm for organic. I like to have the Oyster shell separate so they can self-monitor (& the Roos don't need extra calcium).
Always interesting to see how everyone has their own favored feed & feeding preferences.
