Yay!
She is no one to mess with, all the girls know better then to go into her space. The broken feathers are on the sides of her belly, hard to get to by other girls. She only spends about 4 to 6 hrs now in the box, she has been and is uneven in the time nesting. When I put my hand in she doesn't move. As I said, if finds something good or I give a treat, she eats all she wants, if she thinks anyone is going o move in on her treat she nails them fast. Do Alfa chickens get picked?
A broody will "growl" at you if you get too close. Mine sounded like little dinosaurs. She'll also puff up her feathers and give you "the stink eye". It's that look like she'll peck out your soul if you get too close. She'll sit on her nest and kind of flatten out (even if there aren't any eggs in it) and defend it. I had a couple of Ameraucanas that were broody for MONTHS! I finally decided to give them day old chicks. They acted like I threw firecrackers at them and were promptly not broody anymore.
Quote: Only works if they are bred for wing sexing. Most breeds are not.
