Arizona Chickens

Love Happy Endings!!

I have 3 St. Run white Leghorn/Sussex chicks I'm looking to sell. They are about 3.5 weeks old and very healthy if somewhat flighty. I am asking 4 dollars each, and the one I know is a roo is free. They ate all the same age and he already has a red comb. I can't tell with the others yet. Will also trade for hatching eggs or a docile purebred roo or a few spent layers . If anyone's interested please pm me

She is no one to mess with, all the girls know better then to go into her space. The broken feathers are on the sides of her belly, hard to get to by other girls. She only spends about 4 to 6 hrs now in the box, she has been and is uneven in the time nesting. When I put my hand in she doesn't move. As I said, if finds something good or I give a treat, she eats all she wants, if she thinks anyone is going o move in on her treat she nails them fast. Do Alfa chickens get picked?

A broody will "growl" at you if you get too close. Mine sounded like little dinosaurs. She'll also puff up her feathers and give you "the stink eye". It's that look like she'll peck out your soul if you get too close. She'll sit on her nest and kind of flatten out (even if there aren't any eggs in it) and defend it. I had a couple of Ameraucanas that were broody for MONTHS! I finally decided to give them day old chicks. They acted like I threw firecrackers at them and were promptly not broody anymore.

Yes you said it perfect.. Thy sounds like a dinosaur.. Our silkie does all that.. However she is not staying on her nest...

I finally blew all the dust out of my garage from the time I had the brooder in there. What a mess. Now I can brew again. I haven't brewed since January. I've been a slacker. I'm going to feed the used grain to the girls when I'm done brewing.

My boys went to live with jeepgirl13 in Apache Junction. Beautiful surroundings at her place. The boys have Buff Orp girls and (I think) Rhode Island Red girls all to their own.

No more "singing" in the mornings around here anymore. Sad to see them all go but they went to good homes.

Things are not adding up with Whiney, she will not move when she is in the nest when I check under her. But, she doesn't do anything. When she dose leave she dose not return until night. I think I am going to find a couple of chicks a couple days old, see what happens. First set up an isolation area. See what she dose. If she attacks them it will be right away. She doesn't go after her sisters, but she defines her space.

I am getting ready for the next planting before it is to late. As I make room I am drying my vegetables. I have used died veggies in soups and stock. It will be interesting how I will be using them. I will have to protect from moisture. Maybe used as feed?

I have a small bunny in my in my garden, how much food can one bunny eat? How can I keep more bunny's out? The gate is the only way in or out. Tomorrow I will see what I can do.
