Arizona Chickens

Hey everyone...thought I would ask you here first. #4 chickie pipped this morning on the wrong end of the egg. Tonight it hatched and I am thinking this is the yolk sac that has not absorbed. What do you think?? I am checking all sources to make sure it has a chance. It is peeping and moving. I took it away from mom and put it in a warm towel while my ecoglow heat element warmed up.

I'm sure you've gotten your answer by now but in my limited experience you are correct and did good to separate it from the curious little chicks.

It is still doing good. The little thing and I had a nice chat. We peeped at each other. It opened it's eyes and just looked at me. Little thing is so tired. I got to looking at it and thought that it did not look like it's 3 other siblings which are Black Sex Links because it's legs are so black. I looked at the toes and it is a silkie!! LOL

well, it was nice "knowing" all of you. i am probably about to get myself banned for something that someone else did and i spoke up about.

BUYER BEWARE is the motto around here, punish the innocent, let the crooks keep on. Go ahead, take my money. Thief!

Isn't that the truth! They are just out of this world. Our strawberry pot has been producing for several years now. This winter we put a bed of strawberries in the ground and they've done very well so far. We'll see how they fare in the upcoming heat. I have them in the ground with compost/native soil mix. I had a couple plants that grew right up against the north side of our courtyard wall and they grew well despite never getting direct sun, but also never produced fruit. We grow mint in a large 3' diameter X 2' high hardware cloth cylinder lined with 6mil plastic and filled with mostly compost. It does spectacularly well; in the summer it grows up nearly as tall as me and overflows the sides, completely obscuring the container it's grown in. We had spearmint, apple mint and peppermint, but the latter couldn't compete in the long run. That pot has been going for about four years now and it produces year-round, less in the winter.

I've got some mint going in my front yard that seems to be doing pretty well, so it'd be worth a shot. Kev: What kind of strawberries are you growing? I've heard mixed things about growing strawberries here, but I'd like to try. I can say that blackberries can do well here, at least if you get the right variety. There are a couple of newer varieties that can handle the heat, but I can't remember the names of them right now. I have one growing in my back yard that I started from a runner that was coming up under a neighbor's fence. He has no idea what kind it is, but his blackberries came from plants that his father-in-law brought to Arizona from Missouri in the 1920's, and they seem to do well here.

Wow
Blue is pretty easy to breed out. If you do not see it, it isn't there, and 50% will not inherit the blue. The birds I mentioned I am asking $10 for. Here are some photos: This one *might* be a girl, but I don't think so... This one has blue, silver, maybe mahogany and a bunch of pattern genes This one has mahogany and mottling... This one is redder than the photo looks: The blue partridge must have once again escaped the pen...I'll have to find him and take his photo...
wow, those are some gorgeous birds!

I am so sorry to hear about button. She had a great life with your family.

A bummer indeed. The rest of the girls have moved on and my daughter is ok now.

Advise, keep an eye and ear open, kids are able to handle much more then we think, yet, kids also try to protect their parent. She knows you tried and it hurt you as well. :hugs
