Yes, I will put the mirror back in. A friend at work told me that if I put new chicks in with her, she will kill them. She is 2 1/2 weeks old and about the size of a small robin or dove. What you all think? The local feed store was closed today, so I was not able to get any chicks, but I do have an order of partridge cochins shipping the week of the 19th, and an order of Black Jersey Giants shipping ASAP, hopefully early in this week. Will I have to keep them separate until the newer chicks get some size?

She will likely be fine with new chicks, but you will want to watch them at first to make sure. Adding multiple birds is always easier than adding just one.

One quick question.. The teacher that we gave out eggs to for the class hatched.. Plus a single duck..

What are the chances it will intergrat with our flock??? We have the Moma hen with two babies about the same age as the duck??

The duck will imprint on the chickens, and to some extent think it is a chicken. Except it will like to swim

any suggestions for brand of incubator? I hear a lot of people have trouble during the last 48 hrs. any ideas I would love to hear them.

It depends a lot on how much you want to spend. I did not want to spend a lot in case it was a total disaster. So I bought a Farm innovators incubator off Amazon. I got the one with no fan or turner. I put 3 dozen eggs in and got 31 chicks so I'd say it worked great! Especially for the price. It kept temp well. I heard LG incubators have a problem with that.

As said, it depends on your budget. Also depends on how many eggs you plan to incubate at one time. A fan is more important than an automatic turner, although having both is best. Digital controls are awesome, but expensive.

Ok, yes I have heard that they do that.. so really what I am worried about is them being accepted.. Plus another friend, guess what, has a 2 + week old gambles quail. Just one... So if she will take the duck, will she accept a quail.. What if I did them both at night together.. Just not sure & don't want to find a dead baby?? Never integrated either before, only chicks..

Cool, I just talked to a friend that made one out of a cooler. My husband is a jet engine mechanic. I might have him make one and start with my own eggs. I really want to use just my own broody hens but I figured having a bator cannot hurt. I will post pics and success rate once we get it up and going. He is such a red neck but I love that he can make things out of the most unusual items and they work. I do not have a large budget and I really do not care how it looks as long as it works. I figure if I start with my own eggs and it does not work I am not out too much. He is very good at building things and I have an old cooler out in the shed begging to be re-purposed. here is the re-purposed dresser we made into nest boxes...without the straw

My MOS in the US Army was 63e (M1A1 Abrams Tank Systems Mechanic. It has a 1600 turbine engine in it.
