You transition from starter feed to grower feed. Grower is usually around 18% protein with the appropriate amount of calcium for that age level. As you go from starter to grower to layer rations the calcium level changes appropriately. If your wanting a specific amount you will have to read the bag.Hello all! I've been reading about feeding during our hot summer months & have been feeding FF for years (happy discovery for the chickens). My question is what to feed the youngsters coming off of starter but avoiding too much calcium in their diet? I'm sure this has been covered but I can't find it. Thank you in advance & love all the helpful advice here!
Thank you for the answer Timskins but I should have been more specific. Is it recommended that the grower be fermented during the hotter months? I'm changing out their water frequently to ensure it's cold & adding ACV but have concerns about giving them just the dry grower. I've also been offering them melon, strawberries & other chopped up fruit. This is the first time I'm raising little ones during the hot months, usually I have my hatches during winter and spring.

Odd choice of username for a forum dedicated to poultry.
I AM THE CHICKEN WHISPERER!
On the other hand, Jenny (the lone survivor), is now the boss of the middle age clique. She will no longer allow me to touch her or pick her up. Before I put her in the run, she liked to sit on my shoulder and peck my ears (and crap on me!)
Well, Jenny has changed her mind, and we are friends again. She is probably jealous of all the attention Lorenzo has been getting. I built a roost, a little less than shoulder height when I'm sitting in my chair, and about an arms length away. When she wants attention, she will jump up on the roost, and hang at the corner nearest me. I extend my arm out, with my fingertips on the roost, and she will walk along my arm and sit on my shoulder again. Her buddies, the barred rock and the golden sex links then get jealous too. They have decided I am NOT the boogey man after all. After Jenny parks on my shoulder, they decide they need some of that too. I had all 5 perching on my shoulders (one of them was on my head) a few minutes ago. Had to do some real contortions to get them all off.

We're both parents Malinois ?
No they weren't. Just the mom. The sire was my tried and true German Shepherd. One of the best dogs I've ever owned. With that particular litter we were breeding for specific traits, so papers didn't matter.
