So I got a dozen TJ Fertile eggs and asked around about a broody and looked into incubators. Yeah, should've been the other way around, I know. When I looked up the ideal temp in an incubator is 99.5 F. It's been about 100-101 F out ... what if I just put them in the nest boxes. They'd be ok during the day at these temps and the Hens would keep them warm at night. I mean, hey, it is only a $2.99 dozen eggs. The packing date was #237 (Aug. 26th). When would I candle them to see if they are viable and take them out before they become stinkbombs?
They will probably dry out and not hatch. They need to be kept at 45 - 50% humidity. Turned several times a day or the chicks get stuck. Why not look at making your own incubator? YouTube has a lot of videos on it.
Do
Do hens keep the humidity right?
Yes they hold the humidity with their skin. If you want to make an incubator I can get you an Omaha Steaks foam box. All it takes is a hot water heater thermostat 2 lights and a computer fan. You can get a digital thermometer with hygromometer for 9.99 @ walmart.
I just may try it. Would love to meet you!
I'm heading to Dove Mtn tomorrow to get a rooster.

This guy. =》
Awwwww. Very handsome. Let me know if you're in the neighborhood of Magee and Oracle ever!
I've been watching YouTube videos on how to make incubators. This one guy even made a turner. I'm getting intimidated. I may try. I have an old wood tack trunk I may be able to convert.
Those are nice looking hens!
