Arizona Chickens

Photo of this cutie.. Glad you have joined in..:frow

Here is "lucky" the Sizzle Roo... He spends some of his days outside with the others but has been spending a lot of time indoors. He is a sweetheart of a chicken. Hopefully he will stay that way.

What a spoiled little stinker!!

I did some research and it appears that this is a fairly uncommon disease outside of commercial poultry industry, primarily the broiler birds. It affects turkeys far more than chickens. There is a vaccine available that combines antibodies against this disease and fowl pox at the same time.

It's been hitting several backyard breeders so far, far from big hatcheries. They aren't in the southwest but my concern is shipped eggs CAN carry it. I left a message for the vet I trust the most, she's located in the White Mountains, and am going to see if she has the capabilities to test my orps for this. My other birds are all from local breeders but the orp eggs came from out of state. I wasn't aware of this disease then so didn't dip, fortunately I have all my breeds seperated.

Isn't it airborne? I might have to check this out more. That little chick we got had the eye issue.. A round of antibiotics helped..

Remember to get your ticket to the Tour de Coops. Also there is info on the site about the viewing of "Mad City Chickens" at the ASU Sustainability site.

Awesome, when my DF Cheryl, that got us into chickens, checked on the location, she could not find it.. Did anyone see the photo next to egg recipes on their web site? That photo is our neighbor's backyard, with some of the chickens from our flock..

Sounds so fun!! I only THINK of doing stuff like that.. Photos as you progress ??

Absolutely! I'd love a friend to do projects with ... chickens or otherwise! It would be fun to paint some furniture together!

I forgot to clean my expensive brush last night so now it's sitting in mineral spirits. I hope I can get it clean. Grrrr.
