Arizona Chickens

Yeah, that's what I've been doing, but I peer through the fogged up windows about every 10 minutes. I have been pulling out the empty shells though.

I don't open my incubator at all during lockdown. You run the risk of a membrane shrink wrapping on a chick while pipping, even a minute hole in a shell can allow the air in to dry it up. Unless you have your incubator in an already humid room, then there wouldn't be a danger of shrink wrap. I'd been getting 100% hatch rates with leaving the incubator alone, also I leave them all in there until the last chick is dry.

Well, I've been running the incubator at 75 percent humidity, and 100 degrees. Never open for more than a minute or two to remove shells. I was actually worried about the chicks cutting themselves on the eggshells. So far, 1 partridge Cochin, 1 black Ameraucana, and 7 Jersey Giants.

They won't, don't worry. They will clamber all over them and be just fine. I hope you mean open for a second or two, not a minute or two. A minute or two is plenty long enough to let all the humidity out. Some people keep a spray bottle of warm water and mist if they open the incubator to take out chicks. I also believe if they are strong, vigorous chicks, having the door open will not affect them, they will still hatch.

Hi all I just got my new babies they are Tolbunt Polish smooth and frizzle and they are sooo cute. I still have some Cochins and a Cornish I am trying to sell but did not want to ship them at their age now. I also redid the paddock with a new nesting system for better use of space. The boxes are on the bottom for broodies with a poop deck above them to catch all the droppings from roosting birds. All in one neat little area. It is easy to keep clean just scoop out the straw once a week and all done .
Is the Cornish a roo by chance? And how old? Btw that looks awesome!

One more week left until I move my Black and Bronze turkey hatching eggs to the hatcher. I'm never so concerned about hatching my own eggs, but shipped/purchased eggs are different! I have 5 of each and last candling, they seemed to be developing still. These are Porter turkey eggs which I got since I know the genetics will be pure. The Bronze are from Frank Reese line. These will be my first turkeys of these colors (if they hatch!), very exciting! The Black eggs got shock up in shipping and 5 were scrambled, so hatching the last 5 is a bit dicey. Why the Bronze are doing better, having been shipped in the same box, is a mystery to me.

This will be the latest in the year I have ever hatched turkeys. I usually quit by end of May, but this year, I have turkey eggs due to hatch all the way out to June 21. If anybody is looking for turkeys, I am still selling them. Royal Palm, Penciled Palm, Slate, Lavender, and Bourbon Red. I think I have gone over the deep end with turkeys

Hi the Dark Cornish I have is a hen out of the older one I also have 3 or 4 chicks that are dark Cornish too young to tell if they are roos or not. Planning on taking the lot of them to the swapmeet with some Black Sec links and a couple of Gold and Silver laced Cochins I am such a goof I had a hatch pop out with the dark Cornish Cornish X and Black Sec links the eggs were marked but when they all hatched at once I was left with a bunch of black chicks I can't tell apart. 'Sigh' And ty if works good too I need to find someone in the area that can come by and tell me what breed my chickens are from this and my barnyard hatch. What a mess they are super cute though

@City farm
 I almost missed your comment!! I guess you are right, I Googled brahmas and sure enough, my leopard-face looks to be a Dark Brahma ........ roo. Which is sad for me because I liked that chicken :(

Anybody interested in a juvenile Dark Brahma cockerel? I really don't wanna have to eat him :hit

Brooder advise needed.

I recently, today, bought our chicks. sex link, americana, production red, cali white and a barred rock. I have them in a wash tub, about 3ft diameter and 16" tall. I also have a heat lamp clamped to the side. I have this in my non sir conditioned garage, no fans, no cooler. I have a water bottle and food dish as well as bedding that I bought at the stock shop, they set me up with all this minus the tub.

My question is Im worried they'll get too hot and get cooked. They moved behind the water and feed bottles so I raised the heat lamp so its not directly on them or pointed directly into their area.

I will send in a pic in a few. Any help is appreciated as far as what to use as a brooder, temp and everything else we need to know in Phoenix.

Thank you
