ROOSTER PICS

This is my sick BCM rooster, he is on his second day of antibiotics (Tylan 50, 1/2 ml 2x a day). He is looking lots better and breathing easier. I was holding him for his shot, and started rubbing his wattles, and was rewarded with some very quiet noises from him, almost sounding like snoring!

EDIT, UPDATE:
He is feeling much better this morning, gave him his morning shot, and noticed he does not open his mouth to breathe now. Had him sitting in my lap and purring again. Meanwhile, DW cleaned out his isolation cage and put in fresh water and food, which he promptly attacked with a vengeance!

A hearty appetite is always a good sign!

Love ACV.. Great advice..
Was the chicks breathing shallow? Sometimes you just never know.. You could make a separate area, hospital area for the one chick you think is getting sick.. I agree that if that chick is sleeping more than normal it will not get better.. By now your temperature in the brooder should be about 80.. Your at 3 week? Plus it is nice outside they can play in the dirt and sunbathe.. We made a screened in area for them.. That way they could spend more time outside in a secure area, Away from predators...keep us posted..

It seems to be breathing normally it just is acting like the other one; almost always asleep, doesn't really react to much and doesn't want to eat or drink really. Also they aren't 3 weeks they are 3 days. Also I have their brooder at I wanna say like 80-85 which I know is lower then it's supposed to be but when I had it at 90-95 they were all going in the opposite corner of where I have the heat lamp facing. They seem much happier now. But the smallest one I'm not positive will make it.. I'm hoping she gets better.

Hello everyone. New to the site and new to chickens. Im trying to do some research before i try to talk the wife into raising chickens. I live in a track housing development and want to see if anyone could answer some questons about it.
1. How far from the block wall should i keep the coup and run? Im worried about the radiant heat from summer since the area i have ALWAYS gets sun.
2. How many people have issues with them getting out or free ranging then taking flight over the fence? My fence backs up to a vacent lot which has a very busy intersection. I dont want to be causing issues.
3. I know it depends on the chicken but can anyone share stories of noisy chickens and mad neigbors? I spoke to my neighbors and they seem to be ok with it unless they are noisy.

So two days ago I went to the local TSC and got Gold Sex-Links and one passes away so I went to the store and they gave me two silkies. So now I have one extra chicken then expected and two are a different breed.

When I have a chick that seems weaker, sleepy, not eating/drinking, I get a syringe and force water on it a few times a day. Sometimes, that will help it perk back up. I've had maybe 50 chicks total so far and I've lost maybe 1 or 2. Some of them don't thrive and they need a little help from you. I am not sure if this is the case, but that's what I would do.

1. I put my coop in the middle of my back yard to keep it away from my neighbors. My backyard is sadly full sun, so I am planting moringa trees to give them more shade. They tend to stay in the coop during the worst part of the day.

2. I've had chickens for over a year and I've only had one get out and that was due to getting startled by something. I was outside luckily and was able to get her back into the yard. I have my run contained and only I let them out to free range when I can watch them, I have had people try to bring me other people's chickens though assuming they were mine. I went and counted and nope that's not mine haha.

3. None of my neighbors have said a word about my hens and they make a ton of noise sometimes. My head hen when she does an egg song, they all sing. It's really loud. They did it once at 3AM. I ran outside to shut them up. Having chickens is always an adventure. But if you get one that is noisy, its really easy to just rehome that particular hen.

If you are worried about them getting out, trim a wing! Also, a good way to keep chickens cool here is to get a rubber-made dishpan or something similar, fill it 1/2 way with water, and place bricks in the water. The chickens can stand on the bricks and cool down. Another good idea is to create an area with shade (I used a fabric shower curtain I found on clearance at family dollar)
As for noise, my neighbors have never once complained with just hens.

I'm jealous-I want a silkie! (I'd offer to trade if you were near Globe for a 7 month old Naked Neck pullet)

Okay. I'll try that.
