Arizona Chickens

Love the partridge Cochin.. We had a few years ago...
Did the cockerel tear her up because she was sick or from mating? How is she now... Chicken math has got you..

No, she was torn up from mating, actually much worse than I thought. She died late last night, so I put a partridge Cochin hen in the chick pen to play surrogate momma.

Does anyone have any advise on what I should do for my chicks? I've never had chickens before and I just got 6 Golden Sex Links yesterday from the local TSC and they're great very happy with them. I just don't know a lot about raising chickens and I also couldn't find a whole lot on the breed itself so any advise would be nice.
Thanks!

I would love to know what the costs are for that in Arizona
I kind of like to plan ahead
Keeping healthy stock is important to me
And I certainly don't wish to spread anything that could wipe out someone's flock. Biosecurity is more than a fancy word. YouTube has some very good information pertaining to this. Lol I do ramble...

ROOSTER PICS

This is my sick BCM rooster, he is on his second day of antibiotics (Tylan 50, 1/2 ml 2x a day). He is looking lots better and breathing easier. I was holding him for his shot, and started rubbing his wattles, and was rewarded with some very quiet noises from him, almost sounding like snoring!

May I also mention that within a wekk you will know everything there is to know about chickens, and that raising babies will turn you into a complete paranoid mess waiting to happen? OHHHH the joy of raising baby chickieees!

Umm yeah I noticed.. Last night I lost a chick (Pretty sure she was sick) so now I'm down to 5. My smallest chick is starting to worry me though because she's sleeping a lot like the other one was. Do you think I should contact the TSC that I got them from to see if they'll replace any that don't make it? I'm hoping that nobody else passes though! Fingers crossed!
Can they get sick from each other? Or is there just something that can happen that causes them to die? They are only 4 days old. Also they can't get sick from me can they? I'm getting over a cold.

I love it when they are content - even getting a shot - and begin to purr. My DH seems to get those chickens that love to be picked up and purr for him when he pets them. Wayyyy coooool!
