Arizona Chickens

K9Dave,

Wishing you a safe and happy Journey. You all are more adventurous than me, and hope you all get settled in and get on with your lives. I like the fact that you're into Delawares, I wanna get some, too and some others as a starter flock. Someone here is advertising red sexlinks, but I don't have my brooder and coop built yet.

Anyhoo, wishing you and your family the best in health, wealth and prosperity. --BB

Thanks Bobby.

I posted the pics of my 2 Delawares I used to have using the dog door and roosting in my kitchen. I liked them so much I want a lot of them now. Got those from TSC or something.

We do live pretty adventurous.

Does anyone know if there are any breed of white egg laying hens that love to go broody a lot, or even one that would lay any other color of egg except for the color that my Australorps lay? I want a broody hen, but still want to be able to tell the difference in the egg color, so I won't be hatching out any of her eggs.

Silkies are great broodies and lay white eggs.

They dont do well in the summer however....

Cochins are the next broodiest that lay brown.

Dorkings. I have one Red Dorking-mix hen that consistently goes broody roughly every six weeks and lays super white eggs when she's not broody. My Silver Grey Dorkings are just about at POL and I'm curious about their broodiness tendencies as I've read consistently that this is one of the best broody breeds in existence.

Really? A white egg laying broody would fit what I was needing. It would lay a different colored egg than my Australorps. My Australorps just keep laying the eggs and getting off with no signs of broodiness. I am wanting a good broody.

@DesertChic I had to look up the info on the Dorkings to find out more about them. They seem to be a good sized chicken, and a good broody breed. Would you be willing to sell me a couple of the pullets in the future? I have heard it's better to have 2 as buddies when introducing them to a new flock.

I actually down own a cochin eprsonally, however my aunt has a flock of them

She gets different shades of brown per hen. Kind of like how barred rocks lay, it just depends on the hen.

I would assume the cohcin eggs would be a bit darker.

Ok. Those might be too close in color to my Australorp eggs though. Those Dorking's that DesertChick mentioned sound like they would work out better for me.
