Arizona Chickens

How's everyones desert chickens doing? It's been so hot I have a great system that's working but nightime when they go to bed they get really hot again and it's dark, they aren't sleeping at 9 pm yet but in the coop I relieved their stress at 9 pm last night with a flashlight and ice chips which most of them gobbled up and looked relieved

I'm thinking of having them sleep in the mansion instead so I can cool the area down by air conditioning before bed and they won't be so hot

Fan/fans in the coop help. I have one outside the coop door blowing cooler air in, and one inside blowing warm air out at the top. You can set up a wet burlap :poor man's swamp cooler" behind the outside fan so they get some more moist, cool air going in. Than and shallow pans with cool water/ice should help in the overinghts.

Hey is there any way to reach out to all the AZ Back-yarders that have not found the forum since it moved? Is there a way to send out an e-mail to everyone to let them know we are back up and miss them??? So many that used to post all the time, and we have not heard from them since the forum moved....
Some people may be blocked from posting. I was blocked for a couple of weeks because apparently my email bounced once and that was all it took. It took several back-and-forth comments with the admins to get it straightened out. In the meantime I was wondering how many other folks are in the same boat. Between the unavailability during the move and then getting banned from posting I was ready to totally give up on the site. They let me back on just in time :)

It's been a bit of a battle (a very exhausting battle), but so far no losses here. I know several other people who haven't been so lucky. I do have one hen in respiratory distress living in the house right now while I treat her. She's a Bielefelder and has never done well in this heat, but she's so sweet that I haven't been able to bring myself to cull her. She's getting raw garlic in her feed and vitamins and probiotics in her water while she (hopefully) heals. Time will tell....

Mine seem to all be doing ok over here, even the 2 seven-week old chicks. I have extended the hours on the timer to my misters out there for them. I had been worried about one of my hens who went broody, but the past 3 days she's now been out in the run instead of on the nest.

ohhhhhhh I am so sorry....... I had my eye on him because I lost my silkie as well, he looks just like she did.

actually, they could have been siblings.

if for some reason you cannot re-home some of them in time, our Cienega FFA progrm is always accepting both roosters and hens. I know of two girl who will be showing this comign year and would adore any birds. I can try and get in contat with them again, if you like.

My mom is pretty stern about me NOT getting another chicken at the moment. Until I start paying for feed, I follow her standardsssss :/ though I just got a job at petco and Barking Iron Photography so i can start doing so and maybe, if I can earn the monet soon enough, adopt one of your birds? Do you have any bearded choks? beearded chickens allways tug on my heartstrings <3?
I have 2 bearded golden laced Polish pullets! If I can't get rid of those, I'll let you know.
