Arizona Chickens

I got a jumbo egg today. It weighed 2.96 ounces! I'm anxious to see if it is a double yolker. I'm not sure what the fuss is over them, but I want to see one! Have to wait till my husband comes home to find out.View attachment 1259273 View attachment 1259276

Well, if you are like me and like the yolk part of the egg better than the white part, then a double yolker is a real good thing!

You will be able to see how mine is built in real close-up to see the detail when you come here to pick up your 2 chicks after they hatch out. Actually, since you're just about down the street from me, you would be able to come and look at mine anytime.
I might have to follow up with you on that offer :)

Can some of you post some pictures of your AZ coops I want to see what the standard for our heat before I build mine this month. Thanks!
I'm new to chickens and have not gone through a full summer yet with them. I'm still working on my main coop. I'm sure someone had some great ideas for you!
I froze watermelon for mine last year. They loved it. I also took whatever I had, like berries and froze it in water in a plastic baggie. It kept them entertained for quite awhile. Chipping away at the ice to get to the goodies. I know it's not coop help, but heat help!

I am the oddball. I like the white better. Even before the craze. The sad part is I'm allergic to the white and not the yolk. With many years of shots, I don't have any reaction to them anymore.

Oddly enough, a few have even incubated those double yolked eggs. Some have hatched as twins, but most don't seem to make it, it seem's.

This is my chicken cabin, divided into four separate coops plus two outdoor runs. Bachelor Pad - exterior shot.jpg

I have four other coops plus two other runs aside from this.

Hey guys, tucson AZ here, when I get my chickens I know they only lay for so long, I don’t necessarily want to do the butchering myself when it comes time for that after they stop laying but is there any local butcher to tucson that will do it for you?

You may want to contact University of Arizona college of agriculture and life sciences...I know they do a lot of work with animals but I'm not sure if they butcher chickens. My aunt gets her beef from them because it's grass fed, so it's worth a call!
