Arizona Chickens

it's cool those who go about the basics to help animals, but I wouldn't call extra measures babying them, bc a person puts a lot of effort to support that life, and I want the most out of them.

My chickens each know their name, and I taught them signs for certain things so they know what I want and they love and trust me too as much as a animal can, so why have them suffer in a place where not even desert wildlife wonders about in the high daylight, you know?

But again, shade, water and mud puddles are essential for survival, and natural relief is best I'm sure, that's why I limit air time to minimal relief during peak hours over 115

This year with the extra mansion space and shade I'm hoping there will be no need or very little need for air

That's one good thing about not living in the valley. It's a bummer to be so far away from everything.. but we actually get a breeze here..

@cactusrota I turned 2 of those nn chicks from the green egg laying hen that you have loose in with the big chickens today. They have the little peacomb like the mother has. I will sell those 2. One is black, and one is blue. I'm keeping that other blue nn one though because it has the single straight comb like my Australorp's have. All of my nn mixed chicks that are to be hatching now will have the single straight combs.

Wow! Time flies! It's amazing they're big enough to go out there now! They grow so fast!

@cactusrota Well, they had been out there in a wire dog crate in the run since I had put them out there after they were fully feathered. So, when I released them, all I had to do was haul them out of it and set them down into the big run. Then I had to keep them from trying to run back into the crate to be with the Crested Cream Legbar chicks.

That's one good thing about not living in the valley. It's a bummer to be so far away from everything.. but we actually get a breeze here..

I'm in the same boat! We live 30/45 minutes away from town depending on what direction you go. I don't count the "downtown" Yucca as a real town. Oh, sure we have a post office, fire department, small convenient store, restaurant/laundromat (no, I haven't ventured in there) and a bar. There are a few businesses there, which may or may not be still open. I heard there was a gas station here many moons ago.

We get the nice breeze here too. Rolling down from the mountains that we nestled in between.

Yes I heard that! Our tv antennae picks up Phoenix news and we heard this morning, I was so grateful. We need it! Or at the very least, a cool-down.

A funny thing happened here with my chickens today. The hen's were going crazy with that egg song, so I waited until they quieted down a bit to go out there. There were 3 eggs in the nest box, so I brought those in the house. About 10 to 15 minutes later, more hens egg song going on. Then it quieted down again. I go back out there, and what did I see? The young black naked neck standing in the nesting box trying to sing too I guess, even though it is not old enough to lay an egg yet! There were 2 more eggs in the box.

Mine were "singing" their heads off today too, but when I went out to check it was my rooster, Tank, leading the chorus. I guess he doesn't think the girls sing enough when they lay eggs, so he sings for them...LOUDLY.
