@SonoranChick Oh that I could make Sweet & Sour soup! I know when to buy what I love! Cold here today too - sunny, cloudy, sunny, cloudy - I NEED SUN! No more rain since my girl's yard is way too wet in places. Think I'll visit Home Depot for some of their crunchy sand for the mud hole! Stay safe friends.

Green steak pozole is the best soup hands down, and the chickens can munch a little on extra hominy too!

What is green steak pozole? It sounds delicious!

Pozole is generally a chicken dish, chicken hominy soup with green chiles. I am guessing in this case it's a swap of chicken for steak, but I've not had it that way so not 100%. Sounds like it would be amazing though.

That is for sure. We are learning to like green chiles, We didnt have exposure to them until we moved to Arizona. I might have to try and make it!

Pozole can come in beef, chicken, or pork. I no longer eat chicken but I do eat some beef sometimes

The steak part is London broil cubed, the green part is made with tomatillo salsa being a part of the broth, I make mine fresh I love pozole, squeeze some lime into your bowl, garnish if desired with shredded cabbage, radish, avacado and chopped onion yum!

Been working on our coop the past few days. @BlueBaby was nice enough to let us come check out her coop and we decided to buy 2 hens off her. She's being nice enough to hold onto them while I finish up the coop. I have the roof almost done now. I should have it done here very soon I'll post pictures when complete. Thank you guys for answering my questions.

@BlueBaby Little pic update on the Aussies. As you can see they are growing. I expect they will begin laying the end of March or so. The first pic is Gracie Lee (Blue) - isn't she a beauty! She is so very funny - jumps at anything BUT she does chase the doves away - its a riot to watch!! She knows my voice and always comes a running - I love when chickens run hell bent for treats!
The next is Pearl Jam - she is really a beauty. So laid back and is mingling better with the other girls. She still stays by her sister's side though - they are pretty much together all the time.
The last one is both together - usually how I find them. Even in the coop they are almost tangled up together trying to stay close.
No pics of Annie or Lady - they were nesting when I was out there. They have the cutest little pullet eggs! Lady is a love, I mean a love. She is right under my feet all the time AND she is not afraid of the power chair or scooter if my DH is in the yard. That is a plus for him as he always wants to hold one. Annie is just as sweet but not as easy to pick up - she is a talker though! Enjoy.

The birds are all beautiful....but you deserve special recognition for choosing the name "Pearl Jam". That is seriously cool!

Morning all. Wear your jackets today, it's not supposed to get above 60*

@BlueBaby. @cactusrota the pullets are all laying now. Someone is laying a pinkish egg but not sure who. They're all roosting with the big girls too.

@SonoranChick egg drop soup is a staple in my house in the colder months. Love it with potstickers and a small salad.

I wore long sleeves under short sleeves covered by a hoodie plus a coat. I was fine this morning until I decided to dump all of the rainwater off the tarp covering two of my chicken runs....and wound up with a face full of frigid cold water. Remember the ice bucket challenge from a few years back? Yeah, I know what that feels like now. (And I swear my roosters were laughing at me.)

And since we're swapping soup recipes..... One of our favorites is made from homemade bone broth, sweet potatoes (or white potatoes), onions, garlic, half a head of cabbage, carrots, celery, ghee, and canned diced tomatoes. I sometimes add leftover roasted chicken to it too. It's a hands-down favorite in my house and is both incredibly good for the digestive tract and very anti-inflammatory too.
