Arizona Chickens

Here's a friendly question for anyone who wants to answer

How do you feel about water gun "training" or using sticks to corral chickens?

I don't, even though I know she would be a great mama hen. We recently found out that I am pregnant! So I am not adding to the flock anymore for a long while, since we already have a huge addition to the family on the way :D We are so excited..it's our first! My stepmom joked that it must be all those eggs I was eating lol, they are great for developing babies I guess!

CONGRADULATIONS!!!

A nice cool spot

I finally got caught back up reading everyone's post. We have been working on the kitchen remodel. It would be so much easier if we didn't live here or I had less stuff! We have half of it done. Unfortunately we didn't get as far as we wanted because we repainted the trim at my parents house. That took longer than we anticipated.

I have decided to rip out the carpet in the livingroom which connects to the kitchen. I'm going to give both areas the same floor treatment. This will give the kitchen the allusion of being bigger. I have decided to to a paper paper bag floor. I did a 2nd bathroom in a different house we remodeled and it turned out amazing! Everyone loved it. It is very time consuming, but cheap. That small bathroom took me a week to do. This will take a lot longer! So, I'll still be busy for awhile.

My chicks are all doing good. The babies are getting so big. Here are 3 of them that I hatched. A black and a easter egger and a white California white/Aulstrolph.

I think the black is a roo. It's legs are pretty thick already.

@Jadesun6 - way more talented than I am to do that PLUS you can get down on the floor - hahahaha - that doesn't work with this body! I do hope it works. Cute little chickies!
@meetthebubus - I always have a "herding stick" when I go get the girls who aren't used to coming when called. I'm not agile or fast any more so the stick helps me arms seem wider. I too work with my hens from the night time roost. So much easier. No to get those silly birds down from the trees!
@igorsMistress - my girls would probably give their right wing to have a table like that - not just for the fun shade and wet underneath but think of the possibilities - table top, seats - maybe even their left wings!

Anyone in the southeastern (Cochise County) area interested in splitting an order of Appenzeller straight run chicks? That would be 8 chicks. I thought that the breed would be good for high altitude locations. Please PM me.

@FeatherPugs we bought it for $50 years ago as a leftover item from a display. The girls have been using it for the last year and love it. I sit with them and we have coffee and scratch in the mornings.
That sounds good....as long as you're not eating the scratch too, and flapping and scratching around the yard.

My Lord, what would the neighbors think? BYC, keep an eye on her.

I was looking at my water video from last summer during the heat, and all the girls looked so pale compared to what they are now all nice and red I wonder, does that happen to yours? Maybe I should administer garlic and more eloctrolytes this summer....
