The wyandotte (her name is Eve) is still molting, but the new feathers that are coming in are just gorgeous They are bright and shiny and I can't wait to see what she looks like when she's fully renewed. I wonder who will start molting next.

I'm finding feathers everywhere, it's slowly getting worse. One of the girls has a bare belly and one has a bare chest. I wonder if they're cooler, although I imagine not all that comfortable. Poor things. I ordered a HUGE bag of dehydrated mealworms today. They like them if I rehydrate with cold water. Those and some molt muffins should help.

I thought that last year when the molting was going on that some were saying to feed them some cat food to give them the extra protein to help to get them through the molting?

I'll give them some plain meat, mealworms, canned salmon. Going to do molt muffins as something different. Cat food...I don't think I'm going to give them that. I dunno, I've read it too but...

I tried to give them a small can of cat food last year when they were growing out their big girl feathers, they wouldn't touch it. I thought maybe the consistency was too close to their own droppings. I won't be trying that again, I'd rather try less processed forms of protein for them.

This is your first molt! Last year the molting started later and there were many at one time, this year seems it's starting earlier with only a few at a time my guess is the tad earlier molt has to do with a cooler winter....

Yeah, seems to me must smell gross to them, Mealworms are always a great go to.

This site says not too much animal protein, and I don't offer it very often. I want to up protein but not cause an imbalance.
