Arizona Chickens

Let them pick around for a while at all the food they spilled before I put their refilled feeder back in! When I get them out to their coop in a couple weeks I'll be able to raise it up better to help reduce their waste a little.

WHY is it still so HOT :tongue I am ready for some fall weather! Good news is Biddy is no longer broody. Bad news is two more girls are molting, so there is a mess of feathers everywhere. Oh well, it's natural for them so it's not a big deal.

I know... This is as fall weather though... at least it's cool in the early am and the temp drops rapidly as the sun sets so they aren't too hot.. sort of.. sigh I know what ya mean...

Gather all those feathers and make a pillow like this..

Haha I love that quote haven't seen it before

@Geranium feed waste for chicks is a given for sure!

I'm bummed that the Rambita's chick is scared of me but I haven't been able to visit with them bc of the collision, so I figure there is still time funny how mama comes to me but baby is too timid even with her encouraging clucks... I love chickens lol

@meetthebubus you are right, at least we get some relief now when the sun goes down. We even opened the windows this morning, it was in the low 70's when we got up. Arizona desert weather is wacky...30-40 degree swings in one 24 hour period.
I'm sure the little chickie will come to know you soon enough. Especially if mama Ramita shows that you are a friend. And I'm glad that Picasso is doing so much better! You truly saved him, I don't think he would have lasted long with the neighbor at all.

Thanks, I know that Picasso would have been bad with her since I feel she caused it by irresponsibility

I mean accidents can happen but to lose nearly all chicks plus have a bad crop, just means they weren't protected properly she's kinda strange later tried to give us her problem puppy and it's a long story but it's kinda like a Jekyll and Hyde thing lol

Hi the thing with raising chickens out here where its hot you just need to make sure they have shade and lots of fresh water. I give mine a wading pool. As chickens cool themselves through their feet. I also have a mister I turn on to cool the area. Do not give them any scratch during the hot months it rasises their body temp. Water melon and frozen treats are good. I have a chicken page on face book called chicken holics everything chicken if you want to post or ask questions there too. It don't hurt to look at different sources for help and friendship
